Coach Duffy is a 2006 Notre Dame graduate so when she's not playing her alma mater you'll see a lot of ND fans root for her and her team. She's done very well at each coaching stop and I'm sure she'll continue.
I'm aware of the roster construction and, as someone who followed the Big Ten the last handful of seasons (which would include watching Minnesota and Michigan State games), I'm aware of what Rose Micheaux and Matilda Ekh can bring. Both are more than capable of carrying the bulk of the scoring load and Micheaux can rebound. The only issue that I could envision Micheaux having is foul trouble (it was an issue for her at Minnesota), but I'm having a hard time identifying enough dominant post players in the ACC who could exploit that potential weakness.With 6 of her roster of 11 returning, Carys Baker, Matilda Ekh, Samyha Suffren, Carleigh Wenzel, Rose Micheaux, four freshmen, and a junior from Utah, Lani White, she will have her work cut out for her replacing the points from graduates and transfers. I've always thought player development was her strength this roster gives her the chance.
Why would anyone roll their eyes because you are impressed with Virginia Tech's moves over the offseason? Coach Duffy is a wonderful coach, and she did a wonderful job at Marquette. I think she will do well at Va Tech if players buy in and fans are patient, she is going to continue to do well. It all comes down to effort, attitude, and players buying into what Coach Duffy's vision for the program is all about.
I think she'll do well, too. I also think that Notre Dame fans believe she'll do well in the long run, so I'm not referring to them. The people I'm referring to are the ones that got their undergarments in a bunch when I referred to Liz Kitley as "generational" by ACC standards.
I know, I know: Whomever voted for this couldn't see putting yet another Irish on a 10-person team.Fair critique. However it stands to reason that someone’s stats suffer as there is only 1 ball to go around. Whether it’s her or Citron or one of the guards - it’s hard to imagine 4 players will be on the all league team just because these things turn into who has the guady stats. Someone will make it simply because of how much volume and opportunity they get being on a lesser overall team.So Liatu King, who made 1st Team All-ACC last season playing for Pitt, has taken a step backwards and didn't make First Team now that she transferred to the Irish?
However, King was double snubbed because she couldn't be an ACC Newcomer because she, of course, played in the ACC last year for the Panthers.
So, Liatu may have a chip on her shoulder (as if she needed any motivation).
Glad to see Citron on this list. She's so unassuming that she often flies under the radar, yet I think she might be the key to Miles and Hidalgo working whatever kinks out they might have sharing lead-guard and overall backcourt duties. Why? Citron has been wing-man for both Miles (two years worth) and Hidalgo (last season) and is the ultimate get-along-with player.
It's just a gut feeling on my part. Her finalists include Louisville, Iowa, Illinois, North Carolina, and Miami. She has made her official visits to all 5 and is close to announcing her decision (probably this weekend). Ranked #59 by espn hg she is a 6'3" forward who plays for the Brazil national team and will be playing her final year of hs at IMG Academy in Florida.
