2026 Recruiting: Abdou Toure

I also disagree with the comments that he's not a good three point shooter. He's fine. I attended six of his games and he hits them in warm-ups. First, not every freak athlete needs to be a top three point shooter when you're strong and can score at will. Second, his role on Notre Dame wasn't to be a three point shooter. They had a couple kids who basically all they were were outside shooters and they won the state title. If there's any area for him to improve it's being less unselfish and attacking even more. He seems to be addressing that this season... He enjoys seeing his teammates shine which is also a great thing in UConn's style of play. Kid has IT.

Warm-up shooting is darn near meaningless. I can hit 50 from 3 in warm-ups and I suck.

He's not a terrible shooter just not consistent. And not on the level we're getting in our wings recently. I'd consider him on Castle's level. He shot 29% in EYBL and 31% im FIBA. The thing I'd be looking for is consistency. He's been historically very inconsistent when you look at his stats.

This board whined about us not having any drivers of the basketball and even whined about our athleticism. Well, we have an in-state kid who lives in lane and he would be our best athlete.
Yup and we want him. I personally trust Hurley and the staff that they’re on it. But I get the folks that are skeeved by Calislimy in our backyard trying to shoehorn his way in.

It's still very early in the recruiting process. We didn't even offer Adams, Mullins, Reibe until Maybe-June this year.

He's not a very good 3-point shooter yet, and our offense requires shooting. The staff may be saying "we want to see you improve your shot before you get that real offer."

Maybe they just want to make the offer feel special and exclusive instead of handing them out willy nilly.

Maybe there's some off-the-court issues we don't know about, but I doubt we'd be investing as much time as we have unless the staff really thinks he's going to fit our program. We aren't giving him free tickets to the Baylor game behind the bench for no reason.
He is a very good shooter, he might be a better shooter than all the 2025 guys right now

If he’s a better shooter than Mullins we shouldn’t bother recruiting him cuz he’s a lock for byu

Lol, calling him a shooter is not even fair to his skill set. He is an elite 3 level scorer. And someone said he shot 31% from 3 in FIBA which is correct, but he also shot 57% from the field overall.

Call me a homer bc he’s from CT but just want to see this kid stay home. Probably going to be for only one year no matter where he goes anyway.

Time to focus on Xavier

Interesting view by Minaya on how to build a roster through recruiting.

I like Miyakawa but that first point seems pretty obvious, no? Good players make good teams. Who would have thought.

Agree saw 3 of his games including the final and semifinal Shot very well in the semifinal including
The game winner
I’m sure those who say he is a poor shooter
Have never been to one of his games
I also saw him hit the game winning 3 on a tv game
This summer from NYC with lots elite players
He has the talent to play at the highest level of
CBB
Perhaps Dan Hurley thinks he would be a good fit
Maybe not
Perhaps those who post might go a see a game live

I guess that explains why this board wants to see him recruited.

It probably also explains why the staff is recruiting him.

You haven't posted much so I'm wondering if you know the kid. But, to be frank... no, he isn't. Our 2025 class has 2 elite shooters.

Thanks.

I couldn't help trying to read this in iambic pentameter. :)

We don’t and have never really offered CT kids. Talked to some some people in his crew..he wants the offer. We just won’t
There is no reason for us to offer early. We’re UConn. Our offer has to mean something

I once beat Cliff Robinson(rip uncle Cliffy) in a game of knockout at a summer camp. True story.

I believe the only thing slowing him up is his shooting but at least he had a decent form but he definitely need to put in a lot of work to become a consistent 35-40% 3pt shooter.. athleticism is thru the roof but then again CT high school comp isn’t anything to be wow’d about when evaluating someone as talented as he is

Why does it mean more the later it's offered?
Because the big boys normally offer later. It signifies that a UConn offer is not common. Everyone doesn’t get one. Not even the best of the best. It’s an exclusive offer.

This is absolute ridiculous. I Believe we offered Clingan as a high school sophomore. The crap you spew is laughable.
The UConn that offered Clingan is not the UConn of today. Hurley was rebuilding the program, had no pros and no championships. He had to offer early to have a shot. That isn’t the case anymore. Whether he offers now or in the summer won’t make a difference. They’re in contact.

Mullins, Reibe, Adams, Flagg, McNeeley were all offered late.

Oh and block me :)

Yeah I think it's just kind of getting the elephant out of the room first. The first priority should be talent. Talent is more important than cohesion or internal development in a vacuum. Ideally you'd have both (like say UConn or Maruqette), but if you have to pick one, pick talent first.
