What I want to know is WHO would win the scrimmage if you have this class go against Meg, CW, Liv, Anna, and Audrey? What I would give to see that as a practice game.
Early in the season, experience would prevail. By the end of the season it could be one hell of a game.

Give it a year. By the way, I think too many people are sleeping on Adebayo. Frankly I wish she would be a Husky next year in order to take Edwards and Piath under her wing.

When I was 30 I figured that by 70 I'd be feeble, sitting in a chair somewhere. I'm turning 70 in the spring and except for my knees I feel the same physically and mentally as I did at 30. (I was a little off even then)
So here's an age-related story you should appreciate, Alydar: In 1989, shortly before that year's running of the Kentucky Derby, Eddie Sweat, Secretariat's groom during Big Red's racing days, was asked how he thought Secretariat would fare against the breed's current stalwarts, Sunday Silence and Easy Goer.

"Beat 'em by about a length and-a-half," replied Sweat.

"Only a length and-a-half?" pressed the questioner.

"Well, you have to remember," cautioned Sweat, "Secretariat is 19 years old now."

We old guys aren't ready for the formaldehyde just yet.

Admittedly all I know about Aaliyah is what I saw of her in Canada’s FIBA game with the USA. After reading all of the comments here about her, I am of the opinion that she could play THIS season for us, and do very well. She'll certainly be ready to play the first day she sets foot on campus in June.

If she could play with grown professional women twice her age at the international level and hold her own, why would she not be able to play down at the college level and do well playing against players much closer to her age? Am I missing somethinh here? Thoughts?

Reminds me of a similar quote from Ty Cobb. A number of years after Cobb retired from baseball he was asked by a reporter how he would do against, “today’s pitchers?” Cobb replied he would hit around 300. The reporter replied, “You think today’s pitchers are that much better?”

“No,” said Cobb. “You’ve got to remember I’m 73.”

She's a grad transfer - maybe she could stay one more year as a grad assistant? Couldn't play, but certainly could help with what you suggested?

Yum. By the way that reminds me. Has anyone seen @triaddukefan somewhere? I haven't heard his voice in a long minute. I hope he's okay.
He's looking at what UConn has coming in next year and questioning what the heck Duke and the rest of WCBB is thinking when is Geno going to retire so that everyone else has chance of winning the National Championship.

Poutaine anyone?
Speeling alert!!!
The superfluous 'a' makes it sound uncomfortably close to something not said in polite company en français.

Sorry, until I hear this from @Jingo, cannot take your comment seriously.
OK Jingo weighing in ... You know I like Aubrey a LOT cuz I have seen her in action several times; Aaliyah, whom I have NOT seen play, seems to be similar to Aubrey in every important way .. therefore, to me, considering the rest of the UConn cast, I predict a few NCs for the Huskies in the very near future ... essentially, good fortune for the Huskies, bad luck for the rest of WBB!

Yes, I've heard that attributed to Cobb, as well. When Sue and Diana are in their seventies some intrepid reporter may ask them how'd they'd do against the current WBB champions. Only difference is that DT would probably say, "We'd beat 'em by 30."

I'm not sure who is Milton Berle in these scenarios (stealing others material) but as a staunch NY Mets fan since day one, I can assure you Hall-of-Famer Rogers Hornsby, then a Mets coach in spring training of 1962, responded in exactly that way when asked how he would do currently.

My only hope it that this class does not blow up on us with multiple players leaving because they felt they did not get enough playing time. Not sure what the answer is but Geno is going to have some work on his hands to solve it.

You two guys (Steelerone and Jingo) certainly have mastered the art of seeing a full glass as at least half empty.

I think the only players who are at any real risk of being dissatisfied with their playing time are Westbrook and the two European players. Evina may have her minutes limited this year by her knee (assuming she gets the waiver), and next year by Ms. Bueckers. If she doesn't get a waiver and if The BeFuddler comes in the fall of 2021, she (Evina) will likely be starved for minutes and be impatient to play at the pro level.

The European players have the option of immediate pro play, which is not available to American or Canadian players. Their likelihood of staying probably depends on how much value they attach to the college experience apart from basketball.

Otherwise, I think there will be enough minutes for everyone. And I think that worrying about those eventualities at this point is a completely unnecessary downer.

Not a downer ... more like a reality ... eh? .. esp if some players play the same position like Paige & Nika .. and Griffin & Edwards ... and Williams and Westbrook ..... seems like a conundrum to me ...

:eek:You have a very valid point. The "downer" part is that you chose to include that point in a thread about Aaliyah signing with UCONN. If you can't get excited about Aaliyah signing then mail in your UCONN fan card and please check your pulse. :D

For the past 3 years I’ve been reading a bunch of posts here on the BY lamenting the fact that UConn had no depth. Now, I’m reading concerns that UConn has too many players.

Jees! If some of you guys don’t have something to worry about, I’m not sure what you all would do to get through the day.

Both things can be correct: Past recent teams might have lacked quality depth and future teams might be projected to have too much depth. NONE of this has anything to do with Aaliyah Edwards though.

Building off the depth...it is seriously really hard to tell. I’m sure everyone, or near everyone, thought Coombs would give us terrific depth off the bench. She was a consensus top-10 or 12 player. I agree 100% about maybe projecting too much depth.

I thought Coombs would be a terrific option off the bench when she was in HS, and I feel the same way about all of our current HS recruits. I think Geno likes to keep a tight-ish rotation.

Good discussion suggest we move it to a separate thread though.
