A dream come true for Triad - Coach P. will not return [merged thread]

Duke tells former coach Gail Goestenkors she is not candidate to replace McCallie


Former Duke coach Gail Goestenkors has been told she is not a candidate for the Blue Devils' women's basketball head-coaching position, despite former players saying she has a strong base of support from the program's alumnae. The job opened Thursday when Joanne P. McCallie stepped down after 13 seasons because of uncertainty over an extension as she entered the final year of her contract.

A source told ESPN that on Friday, Duke's search committee informed Goestenkors, who ran the program from 1992 to 2007, that the school wanted to go a different direction and not look to the past.

[/QUOTE Not even considering her I suspect is because of the situation that she left under. No matter what both sides said in their pressers there was lot of bad blood. I believe that carried over into the coach P era as well, Perhaps her resignation will finally put an end to all the residual negativity that engolfed the program because of the consequences of Gails leaving.

So the candidate at the top of Mechelle Voepel's list is eliminated almost immediately. This is a tough environment in which to hire but Duke is a coveted job.

Bond-White has been the associate head coach under legendary Gary Blair for over a decade. She’s known for helping recruiting efforts, and confirmed her interest in the Blue Devil opening to The Chronicle Saturday night, adding "that’s all [she] can say out of respect for Duke & Texas A&M."
 
Triad, they put a Krispy Kreme out on the Berlin Turnpike some years ago and during the first week the lines were out the door with over a half hour wait. It was closed down less than a year later. The was it was explained was that when they were given permission to open by the Town it was with the understanding that they would not transport the doughnuts out of the store for sell to other stores. Some of the neighbors who were against them building to begin with took photos of trucks being loaded early in the morning and they shut them down. The only one I know of now is at the Mohegan Sun. When we go down to Georgia to visit our son one of the first things I look for is the light.

She would be a great choice for the blue devils. Kinda surprising though when the job at her alma mater was open last year and she didn’t get that one.
 
Kara Should be great for recruiting. Start by re-instituting the Duke / UConn series.

The co-owner of the Celtics is a member of the Duke Board of Directors. I'm sure that greased the skids. Really like Kara. She'll be successful, just as she has been in everything.
 
I forgot all about her. This would lift their pre-season ranking 5-10 pts.
 
Love Kara Lawson.

Hasn't been easy for Lindsay Whalen though recruiting to Duke should be easier.
