2025 WNBA Regular Season

Mystics beat the Sky, Valks take probably their first bad loss of the season against the Wings.

Ionescu with back to back 34 point games. I guess she's feeling it recently.

Is Griner past her prime, or just plain disinterested? Her output so far with Atlanta has not been stellar, especially the last few games.

JJ is back, Liberty get the win over the dream 86-81.

Elsewhere looks like the Fever cruised past the Sun 88-71.
The trolls will be coming out of the woodwork after this game. Marina Mabrey will be public enemy #1 after she shoved Clark to the ground and somehow didn't get ejected. Later in the game Sophie Cunningham exacted the revenge on Jacy Sheldon with like 40 seconds left in the game and they both got ejected along with Lindsay Allen. This was a really heated game with a lot of skirmishes. Technical fouls and flagrant fouls were being tossed out like candy in the second half.

So apparently things got heated in the Fever-Sun game. Multiple technicals, took quite a while to sort it out.
I think Clark, Charles, Mabrey, Cunningham, Sheldon, and Allen all got an assortment of technical and flagrant fouls. Sheldon got two.

Yeah, I just looked at several video clips. Sounds like Clark and Sheldon were going at it physically and verbally all game. Mabrey jumped in and gave Clark a shove in the back at least twice. Cunningham got her money's worth on a hard foul against Sheldon, then just about got in a fight w/ 2 Sun players at the same time. Sheldon's tough, but I don't think she wants to be scrapping with Cunningham.

I tell ya, almost all the players from last year left the Sun...but they're still the Sun. I guess all the departed passed it on to Mabrey and she's keeping it going.

edit--no ejections though; I'm starting to wonder if it's even possible to get ejected from a WNBA game, and if it is what you would have to do

Cunningham, Allen, and Sheldon were ejected with like 40 seconds left in the game for their little fight. Mabrey should have been ejected for the blindside tackle on Clark but someone that was judged to be a flagrant 1.

You can't believe anything you read. I thought I saw several times no ejections. Yeah that was quite a kerfuffle at the end. Sophie looked like she was ready and willing to take on Sheldon and Allen at the same time.

I assume by "you" you meant you and not me. :p

I watched it live. Allen and Sheldon were shown on camera being led back into the locker room by staff members and the announcers mentioned the ejection. I can't remember seeing Sophie being pushed to the locker room but it was also announced that she was ejected.

Watching the replay of this Indy-Connecticut game right now. Refs did a horrible job managing this game.

Should have been done in the first quarter when there was shoving between Sheldon and Clark earlier. Not to mention a lot of missed calls for both teams ranging from blatant contact to zero contact like Clark's second foul on Charles.

Neither team has clean hands in this game. Everyone had a hand in this game being this messy.

LA was reasonably close at the half (down by 10), but it's turned into a laugher against Seattle in the second half. 30 point margin w/ under 5 minutes to play.

GamecockFam- - - -I watched the game and WBB (college and WNBA) referees are horrible but normally but these 3 women were completely clueless!
Lucky that no one got seriously hurt as refs allowed too much physical play! Play like that destroys the game!

1). This likely was in reference to earlier in the game when the refs should have really handled things.

2). The scrap here could have been avoided. Cunningham has every right to prevent Sheldon from making the layup, but she didn't have to take her down the way she did. Especially with less than a minute left in the game.

Unfortunately it won't prevent trolls from coming out per @GamecockFam's point. They won't take the fact the refs didn't do their job into consideration.

A lot of spicy players in the mix. Borderline dirty if we're okay with throwing that word around:

-Mabrey's NEVER been one to back up from a scuffle
-Clark's never been one to either
-Sophie Cunningham was known as a dirty player during her collegiate days at Mizzou. Not as much in the W but she's not one to back down from anyone
-Sheldon isn't quite as feisty as the rest but she plays very physically and she has a long history with Clark. I don't get the feeling they like each other all that much

Just the other night the Sun got into it with Reese and the Sky too, though it wasn't Mabrey/Sheldon involved.

Sample size is small, but Clark's productivity/efficiency after getting at least 2 days off between games:
24.8 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.5 blocks, 4.3 TOs, 49.5% FG, 51.2% 3pt, 78.9% FT

Clark's efficiency with just 1 day off in between games :
14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 8 assists, 0.5 steals, 0 blocks, 7 TOs, 34.5% FG, 12.5% 3pt, 70% FT

That was a nothingburger. Accidental hair pull that was quashed quickly. There were no hard feelings after the game. Nowhere close to what happened tonight which should never had gotten to the point it did. Don't think it's fair to bring it up.

It's ironic or whatever it maybe that the two sainted and unprovoked (sarcasm) teams that got into with Reese and the Sky this season ended up got into with each other. I don't know if this is true or not but I had read that Marina and Sophie has yet to actually go at each other.

This was Debbie Antonelli‘s point. Poor refereeing allowed the game to get out of hand. Needed a quicker whistle.
Yes but nothing about referees had been stated by the time I made my post. Impression I got from posts was most saw clips or caught the latter part of the game.

While Antonelli was correct, both she , her colleague and the production team didn't help matters during the game. For example, their assumption that Mabrey would be ejected while they reviewed the pushing in the first half. Not sure if that was possible during a dead ball situation. It was definitely worth a technical at minimum. But was it on the level of a flagrant 2, like Thomas' foul on Reese last season? Don't think so.

They didn't clarify how ejections could happen until the situation between Cunningham and Sheldon. That point should have been addressed much sooner. Casual fans don't know any better and take them at their word. Similar to the situation when Coach White didn't challenge a call when they didn't have any this season. The announcers didn't know the actual game situation and kept stating that Coach White should have asked for a review. People picked up on that and thought Coach White wasn't doing her job.

The first push by Mabrey was after Clark had pushed Sheldon in the chest.

This was Debbie Antonelli‘s point. Poor refereeing allowed the game to get out of hand. Needed a quicker whistle.

During the first half when it started getting chippy, Antonelli said she was glad the officials didn't call any T's. I've been thinking that if they had at least issued warnings after Sheldon/Mabrey/Clark first got into it and whistled the first extra-curricular activity after that, they might have been able to avoid this.
