2025 Transfer Portal - UConn Interest Only

Sometimes paralysis by analysis takes over. Like in replays, if you don't see a clear benefit to leaving you should stick with where you are and run it back.

He looks like a more athletic AK. Shot it the same from 3 like Alex, blocks shot similar to Alex and has trouble scoring off the dribble similar to Alex and good passer similar to Alex. Though he is a lot better running the court and has some back to basket skills that Alex doesn't.
You want a guy 6’11” to score off the dribble? Our guards couldn’t do that last year.

No, but I know the staff doesn't think so either. And I know you're on Storrs Central and know this too so I don't get why you're still posting this doomsday nonsense every day
Maybe I should log back in

Edit- didn’t see anything about averting doomsday in the better get us now thread on transfers or in the premium content section. Should I be looking somewhere else?

He’s probably still gathering information from his agency on what his actual pro options are. NBA? G league? Overseas? I’d imagine his agency has been doing market research on his behalf so that the biggest decision of his life is a well-informed one. It’s not complicated
They should have had all that info weeks ago…

Why not? You don't need just guards scoring and penetrating. He is going to play on the perimieter a lot and will need to drive and score to keep teams honest. I think it was more jump shots that was his issue than scoring off layups when penetrating. So this is already a plus compared ot Alex.

I get the impression that if the staff identifies a player they feel could be the equivalent of Alex, and that player is contacted and is interested in coming here, they have an agreement with Alex to give them his decision.

16. G Silas Demary Jr.

Transferring from: Georgia

Transferring to: UConn

The scout:
The light flickered on for Silas Demary in early February and only a handful of guards in the vicious SEC were playing better than him down the stretch. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound combo guard is a tough cover because of his positional size and comfort operating with the rock in his hand. Demary made a major jump as a sniper, draining over 37% of his 3-pointers, which made his drives so much more impactful. Demary just built a tent at the free throw line this year (4.8 attempts per game). Demary is also expected to be a ready-to-play defender for any scheme. He was a huge part of a Georgia defense that finished right outside the top-30 nationally.

69. PG Malachi Smith

Transferring from: Dayton

Transferring to: UConn

The scout: Malachi Smith
can be a dizzying point guard to defend in the pick-and-roll game. The 6-foot guard can throw pinpoint passes with the best of 'em, and you cannot forget about him on the perimeter. Smith shot 47% on catch-and-shoot 3s this past season, albeit on 47 attempts. But Smith shot just 42% at the rim in halfcourt situations this year. Smith and current Texas Tech point guard Elijah Hawkins have plenty of similarities

Any of you guys think Ja’vier Francis 6’9” power forward from Houston would fit here. I was impressed with his freakish athleticism watching him during the tourney. Says he’s a senior.

I'm confused by the question because he's a senior with no eligibility left, and is also not in the transfer portal which closed yesterday

I’m personally waiting for the SC update where the staff is panicking and freaking out because they thought Alex was deciding 2 weeks ago. They’re never gonna tell us they’re upset with Alex or the PF situation, not sure why people take that reporting as gospel.

I did see him listed in the portal on the ON3 site just now.

Does he have UConn interest?

Weird, don't see it reported anywhere else yet. In an event, he has no eligibility left so seems unlikely
Did some digging. It appears some players are transferring in the portal due to a pending court case challenging eligibility laws. So, yeah that is probably going to go nowhere.

Newton was that high? Which list?
I do remember the athletic being relatively high on Newton and saying his ceiling was an nba player, but he wasn’t even on the radar of many rankings

Newton was #43, Mahaney #45, Cam #114.
247Sports.com rankings is what I remember. Looks like that is what you are referencing except for Mahaney.

2024: https://247sports.com/season/2024-basketball/transferportaltop/
Mahaney #22
Reed #76

2023: https://247sports.com/season/2023-basketball/transferportaltop/
Spencer #114

2022: https://247sports.com/season/2022-basketball/transferportaltop/
Newton #43
Diarra #63
Calcaterra and Alleyne not ranked. Surprised Alleyne wasn't ranked on this list.

I didn't see Mahaney ranked on 247. CBS Sports had him at #45.

Looks pretty mobile in that clip. I can't think of anyone that tall in the recent past who can handle the ball that well. Point center?
