I didn't see it, but apparently DeShields had THREE hard fouls on Clark in about a minute right before all the starters (other than Reese...) sat down for both teams. Lots of chatter on the internet. Seems like Chicago completely lost their cool as they were getting blown out.

As for Reese, it's not even deniable that Coach Weatherspoon left her in the game to chase a double double. Probably not the first time, but it was very blatant last night.

I think Angel got her last hoop with about a minute left.

Speaking of that game, Connecticut beats Washington 96-85.
I missed most of the first half, but noticed Alyssa Thomas only played 7 minutes the entire game. Does anyone know what happened to her? Sick? Injury?

Carrington carried the Sun early, then Mabrey got locked in and loaded from there, shooting 5-7 from three and scoring 21 points. Backcourt mate Ty Harris also was on target, shooting 5-7 overall and 4-4 from the line to finish with 16. Carrington finished with 17, so good day for the Sun guards.

Both teams made a bunch of threes. Stef was 4-5 from deep and continues to lead the league.

Looks like Karlie was back for the Mystics.

Unfortunately an injury when she and Samuelson got tangled up on a play. It was knee to knee contact. Samuelson was okay but you knew instantly with Thomas things don't look good.

Ugh. Of all the players on the Sun, Thomas is the fulcrum. Hope this isn't serious but wouldn't count on seeing her in the next game.

Sheesh.....the clip notes a transition and it will take some time. It has been a transition and it has taken some time for her to adjust. Not to mention the Olympic break was very beneficial. What Taurasi said wasn't inaccurate or a jab.
With respect, cancontent, it was both, or at least DT intended it to be...

In real time, I thought the first foul was a nothing burger (the on-air analyst called it “nothing”) and the second one a real foul, but no big deal. The third one was hard contact after a turnover leading to a transition break, but not malicious, IMO. DeShields obviously felt bad and went to help Clark up. Her reaction was nothing like Kennedy’s reaction after Kennedy had delivered her cheap shot on Clark earlier in the year.

Without the Sky-Clark history, I wondered whether the 3rd foul would have been reviewed for a flagrant foul. Still, it was not the worst flagrant foul call given it was hard contact from behind.
I saw those calls from a similar perspective. People are reading way too much into this.
Okay, one player conspicuously frustrated by her own team's performance, in other words, in a foul mood, ran into the same player on the other team three times with 90 seconds of game time.... coincidence, you say?

Anyone who watched that sequence knows better, or should... Diamond should have been tossed after the second incident, and probably suspended after the third. If that'd been Loyd, Ionescu, Napheesa or many other players getting knocked down, I believe your responses might have been different.

IDK about that. Before today's game ended they said she could have come back. I think she will go on Sunday against Seattle.

No mine wouldn't. Nor would it change if it was A'ja, Breanna, Bridget, Kayla, etc.

So, the fever need three wins to reach the playoffs. They have 8 games left to do it. 6 are at home. 5-3 over those 8 games will give them a winning record. 4-4 would leave them at .500.

They have played great basketball since the Olympic break. Boston’s role as a scorer has been reduced to a rebounder, screener and kick out to three shooters Clark, Mitchell and emerging threat Hull.

But if there is any player that is going to play with any type of injury, it will be Thomas. Tough as nails!

Love the sentiment but when it comes to knees, I hope she doesn't take a chance just because she's tough.

Don't think there have been any updates on her status for today. Has anyone heard differently?

We'll see soon enough: the game is on at 1 p.m. EDT.

If she can make a go -- I agree -- she can do that. The question is how much she's hurting -- knee knocks can be tricky -- and if it makes sense to have her play vis a vis resting up and getting as healthy as possible for end-of-season games (if needed) and the playoffs. Stay tuned.

From Terrika Foster-Brasby who covers the Suns games from the sidelines. If true, this woman is tough as hell because it really didn't look that good when it happened.

Reminded me of that NBA team from Detroit, back in the day.

I remember Diamond destroying the ASU Sun Sevils in 2016 in the regional the Devils in what was then Wells Fargo arena in Tempe. CTT had a great team thus hosting the regional. Holly brought in her Vols and with Mercedes in the paint Tennessee bullied ASU. Shields hit a couple of long threes in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

My other memory beyond Deshields was the pathetic attendance I believe there were less than 3,000 in attendance and while that gave me a great mid Court seat five rows up it really does show how far the woman's game has come today 8 years later.

Consequential game at Footprint arena today. Million dollar coach matches with with Becky. If Jackie is rested and Tiffany is on fire it will indeed be a game worth watching as the Mercury slip to the seven hole.

I'm wondering if the million dollar coach is underperforming or if he's performing right in his wheelhouse. I'm thinking back 4 years to Sandy Brondello and wondering how she might manage this roster against Becky.

It's worth noting that the Phoenix announcers consistently praise the million dollar coach for his use of challenges and his innovative courage in using them early. I'm wondering what the over-under is for technicals for Phoenix. I believe they did light it up for three in their last outing and they've had three Ts in three of their last six games so I'm going to say they're going to be under three in this contest against the Aces.

I'm wondering if this will be a shoot out given the Mercury's reluctance to play defense and the Aces lack of ability to play d. This does seem a good matchup for the Aces unless BG decides to really cut it loose.

In other news wondering about million dollar coaches I certainly hope Cheryl Reeves has joined Nate Tibbetts in that category. Pretty confident she will not underperform as a coach at home against Angel and company.

Fair warning from Sue Bird about facing CC and Fever in the playoffs.

One thing I'd add to Bird's comments about the threat CC poses: Iowa won the Big Ten Tournament her last 3 years, plus they made it to the National Championship game her last 2. These tournaments are of the "one and done" variety, so every game is pressure-packed. This experience can't hurt come crunch time in the playoffs.

While the attention is on her, she is not the only one responsible for this transformation and run of good basketball - everyone is contributing to good team play, moving the ball, putting themselves in position to be effective, playing good defense....they are playing like a well-oiled machine now and at high speed. Coach and team are finally on the same page, enabling easier time for the facilitator (CC) to make plays not possible early in the season.
