Yes, there are differences, but you have ~100 kids on a college roster so instead of being cut during the season in college, they would be buried on the depth chart. And, you can't just cut players in the NFL as you have to consider the salary cap limitations. What is similar to the NFL is that every team has a salary cap (self determined to some extent), players on other teams are scouted, players make "free agent" visits after the season, and you need a GM to manage everything.In the NFL players have contracts and most aren’t guarsnteed so you can cut at any time.
This is far more complicated — you’re stuck with the players during the season (no cutting) but after the season it’s a free for all for the entire roster (no contracts).
