Kyle Juergens is a 6-5 255lb OL from San Juan Capistrano CA>Boise State. (Transfer Portal 1/5/22). Coming out of high school Kyle held offers from Arizona State, BYU, Nevada, Northern Arizona, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, and USC (Committed/Decommitted).

247 is ONLY missing 26 of our signed recruits for 2022. They do just a bang-up job over there. They listed Dayne Shor as a 2023 recruit, so at least he will give us a nice ranking bump once we have a bunch of signed guys.

This is insane but apparently necessary.

I don't think there's any doubt it was necessary. The Diaco recruiting in particular was simply abysmal. We were slow beyond words.

Now, whether Mora can integrate all this is another matter. I would have to imagine it's going to take some time.

We are at 38 new scholarship players for the program going into fall.

17 high schoolers and 21 transfers. Amazing. Really expecting to see something different this season between the roster and staff changes.

And I think we might have 1 or 2 more transfers in the works.....for DL and LB.

Weren't the Diaco kids all gone after last year? I think Randy's diamonds in the rough strategy had lost it's fastball. For 1, almost all kids get seen, we've seen a rise of FBS/G5 programs come online like UNC Charlotte, Coastal Carolina etc., Giving kids from down there more options to play FBS ball closer to home, and he no longer had the promise of the Big East/BCS to sell.

UConn and any coach here going forward has to embrace the transfer portal as a reality. To write them off at large is shooting yourself in the foot.

The roster must have had some of Diaco's kids last year, but maybe not.

Totally agree that the transfer portal is now a must to address talent needs for a program like UCONN. I don't particularly like it, but that is certainly the reality.

Last year, the vast majority of kids were Edsall recruits. In my opinion, the biggest failure from Edsall 2.0 was on the offensive side from recruiting to coaching. If you look at the 2018 to 2021 recruiting classes, Edsall brought in 16 offensive line recruits and only 7 are still on the roster. Only 1 QB recruited in the 2018 to 2021 recruiting classes is still on the roster. Having Guifre act as both the OL coach and OC caused the offense to collapse.

Total Offense:

2017: Lashlee ranked #50
2018: Dunn ranked #89
2019: Guifre ranked #108
2020: COVID
2021: Guifre tanked #128

Unfortunately, not playing the 2020 season didn't expose how the team was slipping and I think it delayed replacing Edsall by 1 year.

Ryan VDM is the one I can think of.

I think you are right. However, I think that Mora is the right man for the job (fingers and toes crossed) and he still had another year on his buyout/kid's senior year of high school so I bet he would not have been available if we were doing a coaching search after a 2020 season.

I’m not going to die on the hill of defending Edsall, but I don’t think the bolded line above is totally fair. I don’t think the issue was so much recruiting decent players as it was keeping them on campus for more than a year or two. Too many freshmen and sophomore contributors transferred out by the time they could make a real impact.

Get off the hill. Retreat!

So, is this class filled yet? or do we have openings still?
I understand that there are at least two kids on the spring roster that are not returning. This info seemingly isn't widely known yet, but should be soon.

Therefore, I think we have room for one more to stay at 85 scholarships. Currently my chart has us at 86 scholarships as I haven't pulled the two kids that arent returning from my chart just yet. That said, if two more late names for 2022 are added this month I wouldn't be surprised as it means that perhaps the punter they added via the portal is not on scholarship or perhaps there is a third kid not returning.

Bottomline, I think one or two more names could be added for 2022 before August.
