Rhode Island forward transferring. Obi Toppin brother. Looks like someone we might want to show interest in.

Don't know anything about him, but his stats were just fine for a freshman.
We're not using our last scholarship on a kid who averaged 4ppg at a mid major

Judging by the other thread I may be in the minority, but this is a hard pass from me. He has pretty high potential it seems but 25% shooting from deep at 6'7 185lbs doesn't wow me in the least.

No more URI transfers please.

This cycle, there have been transfers moving up to the following schools:

  • Seattle --> Arizona
  • Portland State --> Arizona State
  • Columbia --> Duke
  • BC --> Maryland
  • Columbia --> Michigan
  • Santa Clara --> Notre Dame
  • Bucknell --> Ohio State
  • Quinnipiac --> Texas A&M
  • Gardner-Webb --> Xavier

But sure, URI is beneath us.

This happens every year. We had a Cornell transfer a few years ago. Players go where the demand is.

Didn't watch much of URI this season but I know URI fans were really high on his future. He's long and athletic and with the way his brother blew up as he got older I think this kid is someone to give a serious look to.

Should we offer every transfer from Wagner too or just URI? This is not how I would use our last scholarship.

Add Yale, Harvard, Rider, Western Michigan, Rice, and more for the first half of your equation.

But with Martin already signed, "No more URI..." is not the same as "No URI..," or consistent with an interpretation that URI has been suggested as beneath us.

Oh my god. I do not want anymore URI players.

You've offered no persuasive reason why we should turn down players because they happened to play for URI in the past.

They're both equally incoherent positions.

At some point, we need to upgrade talent. You don't do that by bringing in guys who should be 10th in the rotation at a quality Big East school.

Players who happen to play for URI can't constitute a talent upgrade?

Good lord.

As much as I admire your efforts to somehow turn this into a 27-page debate, I am going to ask you not to.

We're set at the wing. Nothing to see here....move on.

Oh no, people debating topics related to basketball recruiting on a basketball forum. What a travesty.

I agree that "URI is beneath us" is an incoherent position but you are the one who wrote it.

What other reason could someone who arbitrarily wants to limit the number of transfers we take from particular programs have?

I see him being more of a power forward.

URI was the #65 KenPom team, Wagner was the #329 KenPom team last year. I know which team I'd like to take the top players from
Jacob Toppin was a two star in high school who had limited impact as a freshman. What makes you think that he could jump levels and be a value add at a school vying to be at the top of the Big East?

I didn't say that. I loved the Martin transfer. UConn should be targeting URIs top player, not any player. Toppin is not an upgrade anywhere.

He's pretty slight. I think it'll be hard for him to add enough weight to ever really be a PF.

Definitely not his game right now.

Because the idea he had limited impact as a freshman is not accurate. I don't even say that as someone who wants him, but the idea he's not good enough for UConn is not accurate
