Is UConn the leader in getting commitments from players with unusual names in the classes of 2020 and 2021,
such as Poffenbarger, Muhl, Mir, Piath, and maybe Fudd.
As of now, there are very, very few women with a first name of Azzi. In the next 15-20 years, there will be an explosion in the use of that name.

What if there's a Wolfenbarger in UConn's future? It seems Kampschroeder isn't being considered. Man, with this good news we are all sure "liking" each other a lot today.

I can’t imagine anyone who doesn’t want to play with Paige. Just run the court and make good cuts and the ball will be waiting there for you.
The old Dolson in and out option will be alive and well and Ania, Paige, Nika etc will be out there tall enough to play that game very, very well.

DeBerry and Cardoso will not be scared off by competition, they are 2 of the most college ready posts in the country!

Don't know about Cardoso but DeBerry isn't close to college ready. She's very raw. She's also not the traditional "big" people usually pine for. DeBerry while tall is a finesse player whose game at the moment more resembles Azura Stevens than Kalani Brown.

I've got four daughters. I'm pretty sure women never want to be called "big." But I think "tall" will work.
While I would agree for the most part, I would not say never.

Ask Stefanie Dolson, who calls herself bigmamastef.

Or Number 52 who won a UConn National Championship, was the National player of the year and went by the nickname Big Girl.

It may be that the average woman doesn't like being called big, but women recruited by UConn are anything but average.

Something really doesn't add up. Seems as though the ratings services have overlooked something big: If Louisville, Tennessee, Miami and LSU were all offering, they saw something good. Very weird that someone is ranked that low, but is offered so widely by top teams, at least to a Big.
Agreed but keep in mind she blew up this past summer. I bet the next time rankings come out she's in the 50 +- range. She's always had potential, but has just really started growing into it. also, she's raw offensively - probably lacks footwork, strong post moves, and struggles finishing around the rim or fighting thru double teams.

I recall that Dolson was selected to play in the McDonald's All American game. Piath doesn't appear listed in the top 100 for ESPN, and comes up #88 for Prospects Nation. Wonder how a 6'5" player on UConn's radar could not be considered higher. What are the ratings services missing?
I think a lot of it is exposure. If a player isn't all over the AAU circuit traveling and playing with thevhigh peofile teams then there isn't any analysis to drive the rankings.

I think the days of compartmentalizing and having defensive specialists are over. If you are on the court, you have to be an offensive threat at some level and not be afraid to take good shots or draw fouls. Some of our bench players were afflicted with this and threw the ball back the second they touched the ball, thinking they were not a good option compared to the others on the floor.

So get that offensive game and confidence started.

You can be "less than AA level ranking" (my words) on offense and still fill the need in that area. While Auriemma might use a five out if he had the appropriate talent, he has demonstrated we can do quite well with a four out offense. And while someone who is only a defensive specialist may not be desirable, you want your "bigs" to anchor the defense in a similar manner that a point guard is the floor general for the offense. Those are the two roles that any team would do well to have filled by a certain type of specialist.

Actually, I wasn't thinking about scoring so much as overall offensive ability, particularly passing. It was nice to have Dolson when we did; I'm not so sure she would have had the opportunity to shine as much as she did if Bird and Taurasi were her backcourt mates. In a similar vein, I don't think any of our future bigs will need to be as integral to our offense as Dolson with Bueckers and Muhl in the backcourt.
