2020 off-season transfers

With the announcement of E. Mack to Oregon State, my subjective list of 'significant' transfers is at the tipping point: 37 of the 74 players listed (50%) have now announced their schools of destination.

One significant JC transfer was just announced: Daphane White, a 6'5" forward ranked #45 by HG in the class of 2018, and who started her freshman year at Mississippi State, is headed to Houston.

Any insight / guesses if Geno is targeting /interested in any of the remaining Grad Transfers?

One cant help , but wonder how Brenda was able to recruit Bibby this fast with the stay-home restrictions. This smells like something she's been working on for a while . Im pretty sure bibby has not had a chance to meet any of the players or staff and if so they violated the stay at home restrictions im sure.

There have been quite a few transfers who have announced their decision on their new school, in addition to a number of high school commits, since the shut down. Obviously none of them were visiting schools during this time.

Tampering is a real issue, I think it probably happens all the time, hard to prove though. In this case though I think singling out Frese/Maryland over this is a non starter.

Solid addition for Oregon State:

For people on twitter, checking out who a player and/or their parents is following is getting to be a pretty good indicator on transfer decisions. Mack and Bibby were both correctly predicted by posters on various message boards based only off of twitter recently.

I doubt she visited the campus. I’m not sure if she had visited or considered Maryland out of her equivalent of high school. Regardless her family is very well versed and active in the recruiting process. My guess is she has been considering this for a while and her family helped in researching when she returned home. She had to go to a boarding school back in Australia due to being from a small town so she is used to this type of thing.

Oh come on! Jasmine Massengill, Rhyne Howard & Elizabeth Balogun were AAU teammates on TN Xtreme. Jasmine Massengill, Elizabeth Balogun & Treasure Hunt (KY incoming freshman) were HS teammates. at Hamilton Heights Christian Academy. Kentucky was an obvious next stop here because Jeff is full.

Best of luck to her. She has the potential to be a physically dominating player. I hope she has matured.

I wonder if the new rules being proposed will have the option of a departing school "non-support" component or a "Student conduct" component?

I ask this as I think of the recent Tennessee transfers of Te'a Cooper, Evina Westbrook and Jaz Massengale.
Under the current transfer rule included:
1. Te'a Cooper was not in good standing under the "Student conduct" component and her request was denied, though we do not know if that was the reason, only that Dawn complained long and loud.
2. We know the current transfer rule has 3 options of "Full support", "No comment about the transfer" or "Objections to the transfer". Evina was given the "No comment about the transfer" from Tennessee and that caused significant consternation and led the committee to deny Evina eligibility.
3. With Jaz Massengale transferring to Kentucky, will the new rule include other options beside the "good academic standing" thus allowing her to enroll at Kentucky and play immediately or could a school still object with reason?

Curious if any news leaks from tomorrow's call....

@Plebe please add Lucy Cochrane of Oregon to your list of players in the portal this was announced last week I think. I think she could be a "significant transfer" for someone.

A lot of these players are contacting these coaches through the internet through social media via the Face Time and Zoom. Plus some of these players are already familiar with their new school through previous recruiting visits or they visited the school as a player of an opposing team.

She actually signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement back in November 2019. Apparently, those don't bind the student-athlete, only the school.

There are several variations of an Athletic Scholarship Agreement. At least on of them binds the athlete except in the case of the head coach leaving.

Her parents probably pushed for her to sign this sort of agreement. Both are lawyers and the Mom has been an AAU coach and currently is a HS coach.

With the addition of the 6'3" grad transfer Ellie Mack, Oregon State will have more length in its starting line-up next season with 6'4" Taylor Jones, 6'3" Taya Corosdale (returning from a season-ending hamstring injury), and Mack. Anything that the Beavs can get from 6'7" rising sophomore Patricia Morris and 6'9" redshirt freshman Jelena Mitrovic will be a bonus. Most observers question whether 6'9" Andrea Aquino will ever play for the Beavs due to a continuing medical issue.

The Beavs could use a quick point guard to allow Aleah Goodman to play the 2. The loss of Slocum to the transfer portal looks to have produced the program's most glaring need.

I don't know much about the details other than the Texas official release back in November stated that Benzan signed an "Athletic Scholarship Agreement". Obviously, there was not a statement from Texas or Benzan that any kind of release was requested and granted.

Texas beat out Maryland for Benzan in November. I guess Benzen asked for her release from Texas. Great pick up for Maryland even though they were already loaded at PG. They could use a post right now.

Yeah I agree, hard to see how Benzan will get minutes at the 1 with Owusu & Lewis holding down the fort, unless they play Benzan at the 2 as a 3 point specialist. While Bibby is not a traditional post, I think it’s safe to say she’ll get heavy minutes at the 4.

Lol the irony in that but if Kennedy does indeed recover from the ACL and come back next season, might Oregon State be looking at a starting lineup with 2 guards and 3 posts. Maybe having Goodman and the freshman Goforth in the backcourt & Corosdale at the 3 with Jones & Brown or Mack in the frontcourt?

Yep I remember, highly ranked out of HS but didn’t really see any floor time. I was certain she would be starting this past season for Arkansas but guess the coach had other ideas, which is why she’s transferring again.
