2019 FIBA Americup

I thought the refs let a lot of contact go in the international game? Paraguay is going to have 25-30 ft attempts in the 1st half.
 
ONO scores her 1st pts for USA at 5:10 left in 2nd period. KLS having a typical cold shooting 1st half. 0-3 at least. 3 pt attempts weren't close.

Dolson doesn't look like Dolson. Has she been ill? Looks like she got bigger.

Even Collier looks huge next to Paraguay.

Who is better with the ball in her hands, DeShields or Ogunbowale?

Anyone got a live box score?
 
ONO with 5 points in the first half, but she’s still bringing the ball down low when she gets drop passes, or put backs.

Lou was 0-5 (0-4 on 3's) until she came back in with 1 minute left in 2nd half and drained a 3. Hope this gets her going.

Collier pretty understated but a little of everything.

ONO looks fabulous to me and and should get alot of time. She looks like she belongs.

DD is probably the most incredible player in terms of pure athleticism and wow factor and she is totally under control. Very impressive. Hate that the lady announcer keeps saying that we should be praising Univ TN for her play. Talk about bad info.

Big game for DeShields who has really improved since leaving Tennessee.

No idea how reliable a reporter Doug Smith is, but in his recap of the Canadian game he says Aaliyah Edwards is 6' 6". It's even spelled out. I find it hard to believe she's grown three inches. Anyone with a twitter account feel like asking him to confirm?


The six-foot-six Edwards had 10 points and four rebounds for Canada, which opened the game with an 18-0 run to take any doubt about the ultimate outcome out of the picture.

You think Liv is glad she came to UConn? The best thing about ONO going into the her sophomore season is that her best days are in front of her, and she has all of the experience she's gained the last 5 months in her back pocket.

Don't think for one minute that Dan Hughes and Cheryl Reeve are not making "mental notes" about Olivia. Come draft night 3 years from now, they'll already know about her, and exactly what she can do, and how she can fit into their plans. What do you see when you look at this picture? :rolleyes:

Something to ponder - She's playing with grown professional players on the international level. She had 9 points and 9 rebounds today in 12 minutes. She's (the youngest) the only college player on the roster. Being around her "older" teammates (Sylvia Fowles will be 34 next month) that are some of the best players in the world has got to have a positive effect on her. She’s watching, listening, asking questions, and being coached by world class coaches.

It's going to be a BIG step down in competition (and a BIG step up in confidence) when she returns to basketball on the college level. We may not recognize her this year. With all of the USA basketball she's played this summer, there's no way she'll resemble the player fresh out of high school she was last year. No way!! And let’s not forget, she's been in the weight room ALL summer. ;)

Right now until I see different, I think the biggest challenge for her will be to stay out of foul trouble. If she can do that, she's going to have a profound effect on UConn's success this season. She'll lead the team in rebounds this year. I think we're going to like what we see. :)

Sounds like someone is getting carried away. Edwards is 3-4 inches shorter than Ruth, making her 6'2" or 6"3.

Tina defers in the early rounds and comes up big when it matters. She can play the 4 and the 5, which is highly valuable.

A team realistically only needs 5 post players.

Maybe Stewart won’t be prepared to play, but even then you’d need Griner to back out to put Charles into real contention. That’s probably why she’s at AmeriCup besides the availability factor. She feels a need to audition for the part since it’s not just going to be handed to her like it may have in the past.

LOL. Ridiculous. You know what will get Tina Charles "extra consideration?" The way she has played for USA Basketball in every big tournament since 2010. Handed to her? What an ignorant statement. She has never missed a World Cup or Olympics and USA Basketball is grateful she hasn't. She has been USA Basketball's best and most consistent post player over that stretch.

Let's recap:

2010 World Championships -- started 6 games. 3rd leading scorer and 2nd leading rebounder. Fowles started 3 games and was 4th and 3rd.

2012 Olympics -- started 6 games. 3rd leading scorer and 2nd leading rebounder. Best post player. As the announcer said during the tight semifinal game against Australia, Tina was the best USA player. She led the comeback in the 2nd half. Fowles played in 5 games but not many minutes.

2014 World Championships -- Tina started all 6 games. She should have been on the All tournament team for the way she played in the medal round. She was 3rd leading scorer and led Team USA in rebounding by a lot. Tina led USA in scoring in the tough semi-final game against Australia. Fowles not on the team.

2016 Olympics -- Tina started all 8 games. 4th in scoring (9.6 to Griner's 9.8), 3rd in rebounding and led all post players (by a lot) with 25 assists. Fowles was 6th in scoring and tied with 2 other for first in rebounding.

2018 World Cup -- Tina started all 6 games. 4th leading scorer and led the team in rebounding again. Fowles not on the team.

Post options: Griner, Fowles, Charles, Dolson.

Delle Donne, Stewart, Nneka, and A'ja aren't true center options. Tina is a far better fit at the 5.

Cat details Tina's accomplishments. She has been both loyal and very effective.
