Hailey Van Lith should reach 1000 points this weekend. She's anything but one-dimensional, however:

Despite all the points scored and all the big, flashy numbers, Coach Darnell believes the praise and stats aren’t what drives Van Lith.

“She just wants to play,” Darnell said. “She’s a different breed of kid. She’s very unselfish with the basketball, and that’s what makes her great. She plays the game so hard, I think she gets more of a rush playing defense and rebounding than scoring. She’s the best on-ball defender I’ve ever seen.”

Class of 2020, freshman in the 2021 season. I was responding to a proposed lineup for UConn in 2020. Bueckers won't be a freshman till the 2021 season. In 2020 she will be a HS senior. Dangerfield will be a senior in 2020.
To eliminate ambiguity, Bueckers will be a freshman in the 2020-21 season.

In pro football it has been done that way by tradition. Maybe you aren't old enough to remember but for a long long time the NFL season was over by New Years. It was the institution of the playoff system and the extension of the regular season that pushed the season into the next year. And in any case we are talking about NCAA basketball, not the NFL. It's their game and they call this season the 2018 season or the 2017-2018, nut never the 2017 season. And everyone agrees that Bueckers' last HS season is her 2000 season. Her first season at UConn will be the 2021 season. I've already stipulated that saying 2020-2021 season is considered acceptable but personally I wouldn't want to have to type that out.

Try referring to the 2002 UConn season as the 2001 season and watch the posts appear to correct you.
Though this may be inconsistent, some of us refer to PAST seasons by the year in which they ended and FUTURE seasons by they year in which they will begin.

Yes, pro football used to have its full season within the same calendar year. Now, pretty much only the playoffs are in the following year. It makes sense to refer to the calendar year in which all or nearly all of the regular season took place. Basketball and hockey span the calendar year and can be ambiguous.

We could use a stellar on-ball defender.

We could use a stellar on-ball defender.

Imagine being hounded by Van Lith, trying to pass the ball to get away from her, and having Bueckers swoop out of centerfield to pick off your pass. Over and over again.

CWill, Bueckers, and Van Lith should be able to split 80 guard minutes in 2021. Be a tighter squeeze in 2020 with senior Coombs but it could work.

I believe there is a strange anomaly with regards to the NFL. While the seasons' years are defined as the year in which they started the Super Bowls are listed in the year they are played, thus the 1986 NFC champs were the NY Giants but the Super Bowl they won that season was the 1987 Super Bowl.

Lots of Haley Jones highlights in this video of Mitty's game from Monday. She's #30 in white:

Paige Bueckers did not play in Hopkins' game Friday (1/19). Haven't yet found out why.

Bueckers is wearing a walking boot on her right leg so she must've turned an ankle or something. She's out of action today as well.

Before long, Zia Cooke will move away to bigger stages beneath brighter lights.

The Rogers junior is now the top-rated point guard recruit in the nation, and the future beckons.

....

Rated the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2019 class by ESPN, she is the priority target of a who’s who of programs. (Only UConn has backed off. “They’re already full for 2019,” Cooke said.)

UCONN is full for 2019? Is this news to anyone else? Especially at PG?
