The On-court battles between these two schools.... gonna be special
Ooph. Terrible. And really hurts the Zag's previously reasonable chances for an Elite Eight tournament run.
Terrible news. The Gonzaga WBB message board community was bracing for that grim announcement after having seen replays of what took place against BYU. Apparently, Campbell was on a breakaway and was chased by a BYU defender. Campbell jumpstopped and the injury appears to have occurred when she did so. To compound the unfortunate injury, the BYU player landed on Campbell after Campbell's knee buckled during the attempted jumpstop.Confirming the worst case scenario for Gonzaga's Katie Campbell, she's done for the year (and her college career).
Knee injury ends season for Gonzaga standout guard Katie Campbell
Gonzaga women’s basketball standout Katie Campbell will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury she suffered in last week’s win over Brigham Young, the school announced Friday.www.spokesman.com
Drat.... Brown was improving and had become a very good rebounder and shot blocker.Oregon St. Fr. Kennedy Brown out of the rest of the season w/ an ACL. Run of bad luck continues for OSU.
It was a noncontact injury in which she was closing out against a defender on the perimeter.

Some of you who follow player awards in WBB may be aware of one of the more prestigious ones, the "Senior CLASS Award". It recognizes the most well rounded individual in each major sport, men's and women's. The player must excel is the 4 "Cs" , Community, Competition, Character, and Classroom. Here is their website:

There was discussion on the Arizona State vs. Oregon State thread about how Oregon State's Mikayla Pivec got completely overlooked for this important award. If was unbelievable. If you wonder why, just listen to coach Scott Rueck reading her resume' at the end of his Arizona State vs. Oregon State post-game presser. Go to the 13:50 point in the video if you want to hear it.
As some others have said I concur, she IS this award, but never even made the semi-finalist or finalist list of candidates for WBB. Well, a lot OSU fans (and maybe some fans of other schools too) wrote to the Award Mangers/committee to complain. Now, low and behold, the folks there have added Ms. Pivec as the 11th finalist! They openly admit they blew it (my words)! Read this! It is unprecedented (their word) for them to make this late change..

"While everyone associated with the Senior CLASS Award prides ourselves in thorough evaluation, we have come to the conclusion that we had a miss."
"While the committee feels strongly about the attributes of the 10 finalists who have been chosen, it has been decided that leaving Mikayla Pivec of Oregon State off the list doesn’t feel right. "
"At the end of the day, although this move is unprecedented in the 18-year history of the award, she is being added to the list of finalists. Our decision is based on just getting it right.
So, it looks like some of those pesky OSU Beaver fans wearing orange tinted glasses had a good reason to make a "beef" this time.

I saw Promise play AAU basketball and volleyball. It always looked like she struggled with running as though there was something structurally not quite right at the age of 15 or so. Sorry to read that the impact of her injuries will take her away from the game of basketball.
