Hate to be overly dramatic, but I keep thinking today is a must win game. Not so much for making tourney, but to keep our confidence going and not get onto a possible longish losing streak. I probably should not say this, but I have confidence we are bouncing back today.

Our goals still " all green" as of now, but need a win to keep it that way.

Happy Mother's Day to all and GO Huskies

Current record.. season goal

11 -9 / .550 .... 14 - 10 / .583 % - AAC regular season
0- 0 / .000% .... 2 - 2 / .500 - AAC tourney
9- 0-1 / .950% ... 11 - 2 / .846 - New England games
9-7/ .562.... 9 - 7/ .562- Other games

Post season Criteria
(1) 29-16-1 .641 ..... 36-21 / .631 - Overall record

(2) 18... <50- RPI

(3) 4th- Top 4 AAC

Yes you are being overly dramatic, this is not a must win game. We can lose in thirteen innings today and the season will continue to roll on.

This was a huge win today. Again another gutty performance. We keep winning without our #1 pitcher ( All American Tim Cate). Have a big home series vs 2nd place ECU next weekend. I think that series is a Must win series. Need to take 2 of 3 or else we are in big trouble ( only kidding, that was for Baseballdog).

We have a great RPI at 19, we are 10 -5 vs top 50 teams (best in AAC) and 2nd most road wins in country. Also still "All Green" for our goals below.

Go Huskies

PS Baseballdog, I love that you follow UConn baseball. I hope you realize just having some fun. Keep on posting. All opinions are welcome. The more people post, the better this board is. We all have the same goal, of having UConn baseball be successful.

If UConn beats Rhode Island and then takes 2 out of 3 over East Carolina, then I think UConn would still have a shot at hosting a regional. Still, winning 2 of 3 over ECU is never easy. AAC also has a shot at getting 5 teams into the NCAA tourney. We'll see.

Projected Field Of 64: May 15 | D1Baseball.com

>>There are three new hosts and Top 16 seeds this week — East Carolina, Duke and Coastal Carolina, as Connecticut, Oklahoma State and Auburn moved out. ECU is sitting at 13 in the RPI with a strong overall record, road record, American mark and more, Duke is 17-9 in the ACC, 38-12 overall and is 14 in the RPI. Some other metrics are rather questionable, but the ACC mark overrides those at this point. There’s also Coastal, which is up to 18 in the RPI with a sterling 21-6 mark in the Sun Belt, along with a strong 20-13 mark vs. RPI Top 100.<<

UConn is the #2 in the Conway, South Carolina Regional:

Conway
1 Coastal Carolina* (16)
4 Kent State*
3 Mississippi State
2 UConn

>>The SEC leads the way in overall bids with 11, while the rest of the conferences break down like this: ACC (6), American (5), Big 12 (5), Big Ten (4), Pac 12 (4), Conference USA (3), Atlantic Sun (2) and Missouri Valley (2).<<

Big win yesterday. Would sign up for a split today. Seems like we are in great shape for an at large bid, but want to keep winning.

Back to " All Green"

Great way to end regular season, taking 2 of 3 from a top 10 ECU team. Few thoughts below.

(1) Thinking we are a borderline Regional host team. Believe at minimum need to get to Championship game of AAC tourney. Plus you never know how other teams in contention will fair next week.

(2) We are tied for 2nd with road game victories at 22.

(3) We are only team in AAC with an above .500 record vs top 50 teams at 11 - 7.

(4) We did this for the major part of season without our best pitcher. It was nice to see Cate pitch well yesterday. This really will be a big plus for upcoming tourneys.

(5) Keeping it " All Green" below

My thought as well, I was going post the same message, although there is no guarantee that UConn would get to host even if the team won the whole thing. Getting to the championship game would give UConn at least 3 more wins over RPI top 100 teams at neutral sites, and to win the whole thing you need a minimum of 4 wins. Going on a winning binge at this point will give a team a nice bump to the RPI especially considering how strong the AAC is this season.

I also feel like geographic politics could play into our favor re: hosting. I'm sure the NCAA is well aware that 90% of regionals are hosted in the south or west. If we're on the cusp and there's a chance to get one in freaking New England, I think they'd want to do it.

Remember we were allowed to host once as a 2 seed. The NCAA likes getting the tourney into the Northeast and Rust Belt when it can.

Crazy that the AAC might get more bids than the PAC.

PAC 12 seems to have settled in as a 4 bid league in baseball. The last couple of NCAA baseball tournaments the PAC 12 also got 4 bids. We'll see if the projection for this season holds.

Baseball America still has UConn as the #2 in the Conway South Carolina Regional but...

Conway, SC
1. (15) Coastal Carolina^*
2. Connecticut
3. Oklahoma
4. Kent State

.... from story:

>>The final two spots remain up for grabs. Coastal Carolina should snag one if it can pair its Sun Belt Conference regular season title with a tournament crown. Auburn, Connecticut, Duke, East Carolina and South Florida are all still in the mix.<<

>>Connecticut, East Carolina and South Florida can all play their way into hosting position if they win the American Athletic Conference Tournament. A few other teams, including Indiana, Louisville and Vanderbilt could all get to the hosting line if they win their conference tournament.<<

That is a dream regional.

I would do cartwheels if that is our draw. Vanderbilt is terrible.

St. John's would probably take that, too. They undoubtedly want revenge for losing to us earlier this year
