Not a real surprise all said and done:

Glad this speculation is over with...
Hey Huskymedic, you are the bomb for keeping a log of who we've offered, color coating who's still on the board, who's committed to us, who's verballed but waivering, and who's committed to other programs... Maybe we can get one more color code for kids we've offered, but already know that are still uncommitted but aren't even thinking about us any longer..

What makes you think Rayam is looking good?
You have sources?
I never said Rayam's looking good... I just want us to bring him into the fold... bring/keep that LB corp as our strongest asset on D, but stronger than it's been the past 5 years.. His production in HS makes him a priority for us... No disrespect to any of the other LBs we already have in the fold, this kid's #s reminds me of those under the radar kids we brought in 10 years ago or so ( Scott Lutrus, Lawrence Williams, remember those guys??? ) . Only difference with him is he's not undersized

I saw this kid was on our radar after he verballed to Montana State.. Looks like we are looking for another body for our front 7... I like his highlights.. another bigger body that can hold up at the LOS for us on D... Kinda built like Surgers too... Nice size and a true DL, not a converted kid like another previous coaching regime liked to bring in... Would be nice to get him, along with Rayam (still want him for our LB corp, which, IMO, is looking pretty good right now)
Looks like Crocker is desperately seeking a Tanoh Kpassagnon type that can get pressure on his own and dramatically change the overall effectiveness of his 3 3 5 defense. I like that they are actually working toward a plan.

My bad. Reread your post.
I agree. Our LB core is looking pretty good as of now. He would definitely add to it.
Guess I was just hoping someone had a read on which way he was leaning cause I really want him too.

Yes. If you can get edge pressure in this defense coupled with the unpredictability of where the blitz is coming from by the backers you’ll have a lot of errant throws which plays into the hands of our improved secondary. You can also incopoerate some corner blitzes to confuse and aid in the zone read runs.
Gotta keep teams away from 2nd and 3rd and short.

I like the plan, but none of the DEs we've landed seem to have the necessary speed off thr edge. Hope I'm wrong

The trick for us has always been to find a Kpassagnon type. Or Lindsey Whitten. Or Teddy Jennings. Or Shawn Mayne. Or Jesse Joseph. I don't include Cody Brown cause he had a lot of offers.

For speed rushers are going to be developmental guys. The finished product guys are going to upper echelon P5 programs. Woodson looked like a stud however.

After last year, when we couldn't even keep teams at bay at 3rd and 20+, sky's gotta be the limit going forward... Can't get any worse than last season on D for us....Can it?

Since we were last in college football in passing defensive, no, we can't get worse -ranking wise.

Remember, Better LB’s and corners can help with the pressures.
I think we will improve.
Also, let’s hope the guys from last year have been pushing themselves to get better. Honestly I would after seeing the way they’ve been recruiting.

Just to state the obvious, Rayam visited FAU last weekend and here we are on Wednesday without an update. Hmmm. Rayam is key.

Meanwhile twitter prolific Haynes continues to have his UConn offer pinned. Seems like he is still coming here. And DeVaughn has our offer pinned as well.

I'm under the impression that a number of defensive players did not totally buy into the scheme.

I was at the USF game near the 30 yd line on USF's side of the field... when we had them 3rd and forever and their QB thru nearly a 20 yard screen pass to the long side of the field where we sat, and both our tacklers completely whiffed, letting the WR take it to the house, you gotta believe from that alone it can't get any worse...

Agreed. If there's one trait that sticks out in our 2018 DBs, it's that most of them wrap up and drive when they tackle. They're aggressive and seem to like hitting. That's huge in a league where so many teams spread it out wide and where we need to make open field tackles near the sidelines.

Well I hope that our secondary did, because most of them are returning besides Summers and Bell!

I think Haynes is pretty much a shoe in, and I'll take DeVaughn...he looks better than Surgers IMO, who I'm still sort of curious about--thought he was a strange guy to go after. Hoping for Rayam.

I certainly hope not. They were in the bottom 10 in all of FBS 1-A of yards allowed, yards allowed per game, points allowed per game and points allowed last season. The defense allowed the most passing yards per game IN THE COUNTRY by nearly 23 yards per game.

All stats found here

First year with a new defense and in all honesty not having the speed and right players for the system. Now things have to improve this year, no doubt.

When did Robinson join the UConn staff? I think I missed any sort of announcement.

Back up plans for Rayam? Well - I don't like thinking about it - but one idea would be to offer Chike Nwankwo, a LB down in Bridgewater NJ. Not sure Nwanko has the foot speed to play LB in our system however (reports 4.82 40 speed on HUDL), but he does display a great ability to shoot the gap and get to RBs in the backfield with some physicality. On 1/27/18 he accepted a PWO with Rutgers.

Lucine Turay posted this tweet at Randy back on early signing day which is interesting:

Chike Nwankwo on Hudl

Wholley and DDC are following Nwankwo.

Chike does some good things against the run. Could develop with some strength but could easily grow into decent ILB size not so sure about DE. Good first couple of steps willing to tackle through runners with decent form.

So, anybody know who's visiting this the final OV week before signing day?
