2017 UConn Football Coaching Staff (official)

John Franklin graduated and was lured to Auburn by Lashlee. Kid from FSU and featured on Last Chance U. Has his warts if you've seen the show, but an electric playmaker.

His performance in the Blue/White game last spring showed that he needs a LOT of help with his passing game! As bad as people say Williams was in 3 games..I thought Davis was much worse in the spring game.

Don't get me wrong -- from what I saw, Davis does not have the arm to be a QB at this level. But if our options are Williams and Davis, I could see Davis being a much better runner.

That having been said, even besides Lashlee's rolodex we just became a more interesting destination for a grad student transfer leaving a P-5 school. I'm frankly excited to see how it plays out.

Would assume that after hiring Richardson and Corey, HCRE thought he needed not to fill the rest of the offensive staff until he had his OC's input. Still would like Foley, but if Malzohn's offense requires different OL techniques, so be it.
Was thinking the same thing. And with OCRL being young, and maybe without a lot of good OL coach connections willing to follow him to CT, perhaps HCRE can prevail on him to at least give Foley a fair hearing. One can hope anyway.

While I question his arm strength, and still want Shirreffs back, I do wonder if in a run 71% offense, with the QB getting a good number of those carries, Tyler Davis doesn't need to get another look at QB. Especially this year where we still have plenty of TEs and probably will use them a lot less.

Davis would seem to be a durable big athlete after getting TE reps last season. Seemed to have decent running instincts in HS from the pocket as well. We're not as deep at QB as we are at TE.

Nebrich never lit it up in Spring nor did Joe Williams.

We need coaches that clearly fit our recruiting footprint ... as HCRE did before. I don't think we ever saw a hint of that with PP or Diaco (with notable exception of Poindexter, Corley, Brown, Lineburg having VA connect). Foley got good kids from NE; Orlando kids from Western PA; Ambrose kids from MD ... and Richardson.

OCRL can fit the WR and OL to his structure. But we also need to get 10-15 more kids this Feb.

As we all know, coach's words are meaningless, but Edsall did say he was not going to rush to use all our available scholarships, and if he couldn't find players whom he thought could help us he'd just wait a year.

Still a lot of work to do, not to mention all the ancillary positions. I thought AD Benedict and HCRE wanted to announce the coaching staff by January 11th?

Another piece to the puzzle.

You know, every keeps saying they can't believe the whole staff isn't in place by now. It would be interesting to look back and see the timeline for when PP was announced as HC and Diaco as HC and the remainder of their staffs were named.

Considering 6 years ago to the day PP was announce, Edsall and staff are ahead of the curve.

Yeahhh, the PP days are not exactly what I would chose as a benchmark.

Aman says Chris DeBerry staying on. Was coordinator of internal football logistics under HCBD. No mention of his position under HCRE, if true.

Didn't they both announce their staffs on or around signing day? That wouldn't have worked well this time around... not with all the lack of success during their 6 years of futility...

O.K. This was clearly a low seniority, low pay hire, for someone whom Edsall knows, has NFL experience and who recruits the mid-Atlantic. Sounds fine.

Doesn't in any way distract me from the most important slots left of OL and DC.

I don't know which is why I was asking. But I was quickly reminded, as was everyone, PP was official today 6 years ago. Edsall and staff are already ahead of schedule.

I live in Myrtle Beach now and watched Coastal lose this year to Georgia Southern 59-58 or something like that. They did have some strong games defensively but that night, everybody lit it up.

Not sure about this one.

It's always hard to tell if there is a lack of talent or the coaching is poor. I would imagine Randy knows his skill level pretty well. In Randy we trust.

EVERY team will have a moment where plenty of points gets scored on their Defense... GA Southern runs a triple option, so that's a horrible game to judge DB coaching on...

It was a 2OT game and Ga So put up less than 150 yards in air?????

Has CC put any DBs in pros recently?

Press release had Cox as DB coach. The staff is limited to 9 assistants so it is likely that there will be no Special Teams coach. Edasll took over coaching safeties 2010 when he was HC and I would expect him to have a very active role in the safety and DB coaching. Edsall still has a good chunk of change to spend on the DC, OL and DL as he is at $1.02M of a $2M budget for assistant coaches. Unclear if Steinberg's Director of Football Operations salary of $125K or the S&C coach comes out of the assistant budget.

It was also Charleston Southern - not Georgia Southern.
