I understand what you are saying and I suppose that is true. Understand that I am not trying to imply anything negative about any player, especially UConn recruits/verbal commits. I mostly follow recruiting for the positions. I defer to the expertise of the coaching staff that there is something there, but in general, watching recruiting tape of high school prospects is sort of like watching Yi Jianlian post up a folding chair on a grainy Chinese video. How does he do vs. a player of equal motivation?

I say all that to say this. Xavier Hemingway was a 3 star recruit in 2011. He struggled to put on weight, got constantly beat on the field, allegedly committed a crime, left the team for "whatever reason," and hasn't been heard from since. Cummings turned a 2 star defensive end into the first overall pick in the NFL draft at offensive tackle. That is from where my optimism stems.

With 13 commits, maybe we have room for 3 or 4 more....so what's on the wish list now? perhaps a center, a safety and a couple of the best available kids at any position.

I'd like to see an interior OL/DL. Perhaps Keith Coleman? I also think it'd be cool to get John Kitna's son

They won't use a scholarship on a long snapper, most likely a preferred walk-on spot.

or a K, we have 2. Not sure we can afford a P scholly either, not with a class this small.

In time, I hope HCBD is able to "smooth" out the recruiting classes over time, as we should be seeing ~22/year, and this is the 2d small class in the last 3 years.

My bad.. just realized Puyol is a RS JR... makes sense about getting a walk-on P and LS...with a small recruiting class..

Diaco had a lot of holes to fill when his scholly roster was at 61 at the end of last season. He added with a class last year, plus awarding some walk ons. He and the recruiting side will be fine. Don't forget just how young the roster is as well. There are only 12 seniors.

I am not sure how Diaco will approach the recruitment of long snappers ... but ever since the long snapping struggles of 10 years ago the long snappers have received scholarships.

we have a freshman long snapper right now who (I think) is on scholly

I'm pretty sure none of them got scholarships out of HS, most walked on, then earned them.

The way long snappers are protected (must be uncovered at start of play), just about anyone who can toss the ball 14 yards between his legs can do it.

I like to see UConn get depth at linebacker and defensive backs as they work on special teams a lot which is always a need.

I would like to see a linebacker, safety, corner and a wide receiver and if any room another lineman.

We have quite a few LBs now.. but one more can't hurt.. Definitely in need of DB help... honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some sort of additional attrition there.. and WR and OL... year 3 with kids that were here 1 or 2 years before Diaco... those that don't climb the depth chart tend to jump ship, look for greener pastures elsewhere. not many but some. can't blame them, because they want to see the field somewhere.

247sports also reporting WR Elliott (or Elliot) with a UCONN offer as well. Would be a nice midyear pick up IMO. A more mature WR to push the younger ones that we currently have a plethora of.

Out of high school he was a 3-Star recruit with a 4.7 40 Dash. His current HUDL page lists him at a 4.45 40. Hopefully he could provide a good spark into the team if he does choose to commit to us.

I think we get a transfer for the DB help...from an SEC school
