Great interview with Joy Reid. Discussing the contents would probably get me in troubles with the mods but it is well worth a listen. Includes some comments on her team owner, her own activism and more.
And then there's this...
Wagstaff (Groucho Marx): "Have we got a stadium?"
Professors: "Yes."
Wagsraff: "Have we got a college?"
Professors: "Yes."
Wagstaff: "Well, we can't...
Not for nothing, but I suspect the chances of something CNN reported being true are slightly higher than the chances for something a poster on a sports forum comes up with. I could be wrong, mind you: I'm just another poster, and I don't have a medical degree (and perhaps you do).
Not for nothing, but by the time they are out of basketball, the head of human resources and the head of the company might have tattoos themselves. Not my thing, but then beards weren't our parents thing andshowing an ankle wasn't our grandparents' thing. Or am I dating myself?
I haven't seen anything definitive, but I doubt that getting on a plane in the UK would help much if one were travelling on a passport from a blacklisted country. [ ]
Candor does not always equal snark. Geno respects the game (and the players) enough to be honest. Amd lots of teams show up for the tournament without thinking they will win it all. The more experience they get at tournament play the more they'll be ready for next year.
William of Orange famously said "one need not hope in order to undertake nor succeed in order to persevere."
YMMV, but I do not read Hoopsfan22's post as a uggestion that we stop being fans or stop hoping for improvement. It seems like the sort of thing Geno himself would say (and has said)...
Be not so sure. A work colleague once remarked that I had a brilliant future behind me. He turned out to be right, though it took a couple years for me to acknowledge it and move on.
When Katie Lou Samuelson played against sister Karlie in the 2017 tourney, their father and older sister wore specially made "Stan-Conn" T-shirts which showed each team's logo with that daughter's number under it.
Elsewhere, their father once suggested he could wear a UConn hat with a...
If I'm not mistaken, Fox owns the Big East TV rights but is sub-leasing them to CBS/CBSSN.
Some questions to keep in mind, even if er can't know the answers yet:
--What would UConn share of the Fox/CBS package bring in?
--Would ESPN try to keep UConn in the AAC by cutting UConn a bettter...
Been saving this one for a slow week. One of the Big Dance's features is 1-and-done, all the waay from the round of 64 to the national championship. What would change if the championship was best-of-three? Or if the final four was round-robin?
We often hear that "Team X was just better that...
Depends on what you value most: a legend who admires her from afar or a friend who knows her and (I'm guessing) has been with her through thick and thin.
ASAP Sports Transcripts - Basketball - 2019 - NCAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP: WOMEN'S FINAL FOUR - April 5 - Geno Auriemma - Katie Lou Samuelson - Napheesa Collier - Christyn Williams
ND's not up yet as I write this,
I would like to extend my thanks to the fans that show up for exhibition games. You may be more important than you realize if your enthusiasm was part of what made her choose UConn.
Great find, and a great compliment to our fans:
Bueckers said she has strong relationships with Auriemma and assistant coach Chris Dailey, and she has loved her visits to the UConn campus, most recently on Nov. 2 for a Huskies exhibition game.
"The fan base is so amazing that it felt like we...
Ever have trouble hearing everything when you watch the pre- and post-game press conferences? ASAPsports has resumed publishing transcripts of UConn WBB NCAA news conferences, after skipping the first two rounds. The site is searchable by team and by coach or player name.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make here, but I think you may have misunderstood what I was saying. I'm not suggesting that UConn should ban students from playing football on their own. I'm saying a public school whose mission statements say it wants to "promote the health and...
You are right (and I should have said I didn't care if it cost UConn money from alumni OR OUTSIDE SUPPORTERS). A university, especially a public one, should lead by example, not sell its soul. And, for those who believe that money is paramount, I would suggest using your favorite search engine...
Let's drop football. I don't even care if it would help our women's team, even if that would be a nice bonus.
The time is long, long past when any university should be endorsing a sport that destroys the minds and bodies of so many kids that the school should be protecting and nurturing. I...
It depends on what you mean by hack.
A VPN disguises where your computer is located, which is very useful if (1) you want to keep a government from knowing what door to knock down or (2) you want, for example, to pretend you are really in England so you can stream British TV programs that...
Great discussion so far. At the risk of screwing it up, here are some additional thoughts:
1) While I understand that some people don't want sports teams to address social issues, the status quo is just as political as changes to it.
2) Most advertisers are much more interested in reaching...
I look at the article as a factual discussion of (1) HOW the league and its players are handling the social and political issues that other athletes and leagues confront and (2)HOW it affects their marketing.
The how is the same whether one likes or dislikes the underlying actions. And I think...
Politico.com has a (non-cesspool, I trust) take-out today (at How the WNBA Stood Up to Trump and Won Fans) on how the WNBA and its players have found that taking a stand on social justice issues can also be good marketing for its target audiences.
"Fans of the league tend to be older men—its TV...
While there is a LOT in her piece that strikes me as silly, feline eye-blink communication is an actual thing. Essentially, a cat that blinks slowly is indicating that he or she trusts you not to attack immediately. A human or animal who acknowledges that by responding with a slow blink is...
