Xavier post game thread.

Samson Johnson's last 23 minutes played between the Providence and Xavier games:

20 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, (9-13 FG).

Out of our entire roster, the growth of his BBIQ has been the most palpable. It's incredible how hard he and the staff has worked on his development over the last three seasons.

Samson has been great the past two games but it's been a mighty struggle for the majority of the season for him, that's the most kind way I can put it.

I hope the past two games are an indication of him turning the corner and I always felt like the spacing and less physical play of the NCAA tournament would help him but I can't agree with your post.

Samson's 10 games prior to the last 2 have him at 3.8 ppg, 2.2 rebounds per game, 3.6 fouls per game.

I don't think he's grown over the season, or maybe I'm just not understanding you. Started hot versus terrible teams, had an explosive game vs. Texas, and then regressed badly. The entire conference slate until our last game vs. Providence he looked like a barely-serviceable backup with that foul rate and lack of rebounding.

The last two games have shown what he is capable of. The scoring is a bonus; what I've been happy with is the positional defense, minimal fouling and improved rebounding. That is what makes a backup 5 tick. Like I said earlier in this thread, if something has clicked and he has turned the corner, we look close to unstoppable.

UConn's second half shots are all from one foot away. Just physically manhandling us.

We're out of our league against these guys.

From 10-0, they outscored us 87-50. That's probably a fair representation of the difference between the quality of the two teams.

Irregardless of what posters think about the level of Xavier talent this year, everyone should acknowledge that UConn has better talent across the board compared to just about any other team in the country. Not just superior talent but experience and the ability to play together as a team too. In the 2nd half they consistently put X players in positions where they had to choose which player to guard in a 2 on 1 situation. Then they made the correct pass or drive to defeat the X defense. They could play each other 10 games in a row and I believe that UConn would win every one of them.

I've heard a number of analysts now mention that UCONN is even more talented than they were last season. I have to agree with them, and you.

I think irregardless is a word? Spell check doesn't like it but I always thought it was.

Shouldn’t be a word, informal or otherwise based on English rules (which I understand is a dubious term lol). It’s a redundant double-negative

I always thought is was people confusing “irrespective” and “regardless “ but I will allow an “informal word” from any UConn alum who taught English.

Irrespective of your opinion, what is the difference between regardless and irregardless? I can say that as a former field engineer, the premise of the premises often left the front office nonplussed.

In this usage I think they certainly should have gone with "irrespective".

There isn't a difference. I generally jist see people either meaning "regardless" or conflating it with "irrespective."

If it makes you feel better, I marked kids down for using it in writing. How you speak and how you write should be different things.
