OT: World Cup

Go Morocco, and I said this for s Korea and Turkey when they advanced to the semi finals several cups ago, and Senegal (quarters) but it is so nice to have some new blood going deep even if much of the rest of the quarter finals, each year, is fairly predictable: (France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal)... this year has seen a number of those either not make it (italy) or bow out really early (Germany, twice in a row, belgium) or fairly early (spain). Just to make things interesting would love to see Brazil and France upset in the quarters and Argentina in their upcoming game.
I agree with most of this but I enjoy watching Brazil so would prefer they keep going.

This reminds of what happened when the USWNT finally sat Abby Wambach.
The media has been spinning the Messi/Ronoldo potentially meeting in the finals scenario. If it does happen, the spin will be interesting/entertaining if one of the two is riding the pine.

Hopefully this opened Ronaldo's eyes (wishful thinking). Portugal is more dynamic with Rafael Leão or Gonçalo Ramos up top. His days are numbered and he has to realize he is not the player he once was.

Would Ronaldo be the best player on the US squad?

I'll have to catch the highlights tonight with the lovely and talented Kate Abdo

Ironically, Ronaldo would be a great striker on the U.S. squad. He'd probably convert some of our crosses. He knows how to finish, it's the high pressure effort he doesn't have any interest in. He wants to be a 9 that rarely even crosses midfield, and he doesn't want to hound defenders.

New coach at ManU implemented a high pressure attacking system and Ronaldo is just a bad fit. He benched two of England's starting 11 (Shaw, Maguire) as well, earlier in the season.

Though I enjoy upsets, it is better for the neutral viewer if Cinderella runs end in the quarterfinals. You want to watch the best in the semis and final. A Final Four of Argentina (Messi), Brazil (Neymar), France (Mbappe), and Portugal (Ronaldo) is the best for neutral viewers.

Some of the players hated him. Mainly the ones that we didn’t need anymore.

He was 100% right.
His anti-MLS opinion was right on. His tactics were not a good fit for the younger guys. As disappointing as GG is/was, no one was sorry to see JK leave.

Other than the players who said they were not pleased with that, yeah you are right.

Who are the most likely to pull an upset in the Quarter finals? Maybe England?

Netherlands vs Argentina
Croatia vs Brazil

England vs France
Moracco vs Portugal

Ned most likely then Moracco.
I don't see England being able to hang with France the way they are playing and Brasil is Brasil.

people forget the USMNT beat Morocco 3-0 in June

which directly led to them firing their manager...

and appointing Walid Regragui...

they are welcome

Dutch, then the English. Croatia has the worst odds. Morocco isn't going to turtle and survive to penalties against Portugal.

@outlaw guys like Zayech hated that coach and did what they needed to do in order to get the change they wanted (like losing 3-0 to the USA), and look at them now

Brazil v Croatia going to extra time. No real scoring chances for Croatia and the Croatian goalie has been awesome.

Glad this didn’t go to PKs. Didn’t care who won, but PKs suck. These teams deserved a real result. ugh. Didn’t see the goal.

Wow. I literally stopped watching after Brazil scored with under 1M left. Croatia actually scored in that time period? I'm astonished. They didn't have a shot on goal before that.

Croatia scored late in the second 15 of extra time.

Yes, I have watched the replay. I was hungry, making lunch and watching. Made a mistake and forgot that there was another 15 minutes. Brazil scored with like 40 seconds left in the first OT so I figured...game over. Not one of my better moments.

Dutch just got robbed. A flop, outside the box, and they award a penalty to Argentina. Maybe it wouldn't matter, but that was criminal.

What a freakin match. Off the post in the 121st minute.

If Argentina doesn't fire the ball at the Dutch bench, the ref doesn't extend stoppage time and the Dutch don't equalize.

Glad I chose to pseudo-work today. What a day.
