OT: World Cup 2018

10 games are played in Canada and 10 are in Mexico. The rest are in the US
Yes, the US/CAN/MEX reference in my prior message implied 2026 games will be played in each nation. Yes, 2026 World Cup stadiums will be packed to the gills.

Yup, most if not all of the US stadiums and certainly Azteca are larger than most of the 2018 and likely most of the 2022 stadiums to be built then shrunk post tournament. Yes, reasonable people selected US/MEX/CAN over Morocco knowing more tickets will likely be sold with existing stadiums, transportation, hotels, etc. than the unknown to potentially be built in Morocco. The latter remains the point.

Is there someone who thinks Morocco had a chance or was even, realistically, a valid location? Qatar is bad enough.

Next one after 2026 should be in Europe somewhere. The UK or perhaps a combined Spain and Portugal bid. They list Russia as Europe, but most of it is in Asia (although not most of the people).

Other than French construction firms? Purportedly, some European feds, networks, etc. were pushing for Morocco. Setting that aside, I believe Morocco would be better than Qatar. UK (England, Wales, Scotland) and Ireland (all of it, north included ;) ) would appear to be good candidates.

England is really looking for the 1-man Sterling counter aggressively.

They have some speed that most prior England squads did not.

France and England just seem destined for a collision course in the final.

FIFA, media networks, brands, etc would certainly be pleased with England, but 65+ minutes left in this semi-final may still undermine 1/2 of their preferred final participants' destiny.

England has blown so many quality chances. It's mind boggling how poor most of their guys are at finishing. None of them seems to have a left foot, and the repeatedly turn up open looks to dribble into traffic.

Yup, but until goals off of free kicks, corners, penalty shots, etc don't count FIFA, networks, brands, etc will likely still prefer England's bigger name, global following, population, merchandise sales potential, possible destiny, etc over Hrvatska.

Walker, a fine example of dumber than a doorknob.
Wicked un-smaht!

In a single final game, the winner of England or Croatia could beat France. On the other hand, the quality of this game, creativity, speed, etc. hasn't done too much to convince humble me the symbolic final involving 2018's best 2 teams wasn't played yesterday. Maybe I'm wrong!

Best 3 teams in terms of talent + form were on the left side: France, Belgium, and Brazil.

And so the fake injuries to slow the game commence. This sport needs to fix some things.

Yeah we have much better infrastructure and much larger stadiums than a majority of the countries. The USA is huge but is still one of the best options. Every game will be sold out

The team who I'm really riding as a dark horse in this tournament is Croatia, who arguably should've beat Portugal in 2016 and outplayed Spain in that same tournament. I just feel like this is the perfect combination for them. Both the midfielders (Rakitic, Modric, Kovacic, Brozovic) and forwards (Mandzukic, Kalinic, Perisic) are in their peak years, at the best clubs in the world. Plus, they beat my Ukrainians to get into the UEFA playoff, so they better go far and make that stinging loss worth it.
One more match!
