It looks like Ga Tech/ACC, Michigan/Big Ten and Utah/Pac12 turned down autobids to the WNIT.
I know Utah was down to 7 healthy players. Not sure about the other teams

The Big Ten autobid went to Ohio State.

USC must've been offered and declined.
Duke was almost certainly offered as well.

I suspect the others weren't offered.

I havent got the scoop on USC, as I used too. I wonder if the recent scandal tied things up there. Donna Heinel was fired and is one of the ones on the indictments list(I believe) She was the head of the WBB program at USC,, among other programs.

If the WNIT is still where the teams bid to host USC would lose $$ on any hosting game as nobody shows up. If they decide to play on the road thats a lot of traveling too. They made the WNIT finals in 2011, lost to Toledo. They played the first game at home to about 400 people that half were from UCSB and the rest of the games on the road at Colorado(before they were in Pac12) Nevada, BYU, Illinois state and finally in Toledo. I went to the Colorado and Toledo games.

So how much longer will the WNIT exist? Too many teams lately turning down bids.

Just because a handful of teams decline their bids, the tournament should fold?

The tournament is pretty much self-financing since the teams host and the visitors pay for their own travel.

Last year's championship game was seen by a record crowd at Indiana's Assembly Hall. More often than not, the home team packs the house for the championship game.

Honestly, that's ridiculous and sour grapes. "We didn't get an invite to the big dance, we thought we deserved one, so we are taking our princess tiaras and heading home".

I'm sure the players follow along with the energy/attitude of the coaches. If the coaches go to the players and say "We got dissed, and NOW they want to give us a bid to the NIT. How disrespectful. By the way do any of you feel like playing in the lowly WNIT?" What do you think the players will say?

I blame the coaches for being poor leaders and poor sports and poor ambassadors for the game.

I could picture Geno, and many other top level coaches, saying "Maybe you feel we should have gotten in, but we lost games we needed to win to make it so that they HAD to give us a ticket to the NCAA's. So put on your big girl pants and let's go and rock the WNIT"...

I dunno, the WNIT is a consolation tourney. I can see a program saying "The standard is the NCAAs. If we don't meet that standard, the season is over." Hatchell said that one year.

You made the assumption that because I asked about it's viability that I was advocating for it to fold. I'm all for opportunities for emerging programs to get tournament experience.
