WNBA Playoffs Thread

Okay @eebmg /other Liberty fans: NY HAS to do something about their roster makeup don't they? It's INSANE how many wings they are carrying. From the group of Laney/Johannes/Allen/Whitcomb/Onyenwere/Richards/Willoughby I would think you should lose at least 2 and maybe 3 of those. Maybe a few of those can be considered undersized 4s...but not really.

Keep the first 4, dump the other 3. Sign Stewart and keep a rookie or 2 and you have a legit title contender:
Front court: Stewart/Howard/Dolson/Xu
Wings: Laney/Allen/Johannes/Whitcomb
PG: Sabrina/Dangerfield or another signee/rookie

I would ditch Whitcomb and Dangerfield also, but keep Onyenwere (she's young, versatile, and athletic).

Chicago continues to show why they are one of the best teams in the League. Sure, they had some hiccups here and there but, in the end, Coach Wade rallied the squad. It has to be a joy coaching a team with solid veterans like CP3, Vandersloot, Quiley, Meesseman, & Copper. Stevens and Gardner came in and gave solid minutes on both ends of the floor. Gardner played some decent defense of Sabrina.

B. Stewart is obviously big free agency grab, but there are a lot of other free agents that would help NYL could go after, including Nnkea, Brionna Jones, Azura Stevens, Tiff Hayes, and Brittany Sykes. 2023 WNBA Free Agents Tracker

And who knows what's next for Parker/Vandersloot/Quigley/Emma.

The biggest problem I have with New York is Sandy. She allows her guards to dominate the ball, and that's why she only won one time all the years in Phoenix.
Those teams underachieved, you had Breland, Bonner, Griner, Taylor, and Dee, and only the 2014 title. You had some decent players and 2 times in the finals.

What post players for NY would you allow to dominate the ball ? Dolson ? Han ? Howard ?

The best teams Seattle, Las Vegas, Chicago, Washington move the ball with guick passes, not a guard pounding the ball on the floor.

A lot of solid free agents on that list. Just comes down to right fit, feel, and who decides to stay with their team or decides to move on.

Not gonna lie. I was worried that the Little League game was going to delay the start of the Chicago/New York game last night, like it did Seattle/Washington the other day. Tonight, looks like the same schedule. I still see the Sun winning this series. It is going to be interesting to see how Dallas does with Arike, if she is cleared to play, and how much she can play out there given her injury.

Go Dallas!

Nice to watch a game with minimal rooting interest. Hope it is c;lose.

Dallas beginning to drop out with Bonner taking over so Arike coming in. Can she work some magic?

No. and CT is beginning to

and boy has Mabrey been reckless with the ball today.

CT won but didn't look too good in the process. If they don't clean things up Chicago is going to walk all over them.

Okay - so it wasn't just me thinking that last night but it was more than just when she had the ball. That one play where she and Heideman (sic?) collided going after a ball. I'm glad the impact wasn't a bad as it could have been.

The Sky seems to have the Sun's number. But I thought they would lose last night. They need to figure it out on D. Go Sun!

Huge props to all, but especially Gardner and Queen Egbo. Most thought Egbo was a weak pick at #10 and she proved everyone wrong. Gardner coming into the league at 32 and being a major 2 way contributor for a title contender was hugely unexpected.
For such a small league, there have been some nice underdog success stories over the last few years. Laney comes to mind and now Gardner as well. I think there are a few others but can’t recall names.

Becky Hammon won COY.

Last year the Aces were 24-8 and finished 2nd to the Connecticut Sun. This season the Aces finished 1st with a record of 26-10.

Okay. The Aces looked like a better team this season. She told them to shoot more 3s!

I'm surprised at how few votes James Wade got. Chicago tied with the same record as Aces (26-10) after going 16-16 a year ago. Hammon gets 27 votes, Wright with 18, Wade with only 8.

Probably because he got Executive of the Year. Got to spread the wealth.
