Wins needed to make 2021 NCAA tourney

11.6 strike outs a games bu UConn hitters. That's terrible. It's even worse in college ball where so many errors occur and any contact can get you on base. This looks like it will be a season long problem.
Things can change over a short period of time in baseball - I will bet that it will be down to under 6 in a few weeks

Hope you're right. But this is nowhere near where a top team should be.

Haven't been following closely due to focus on hoops and even hockey. Is this start somewhat disappointing? Feels that way to me, but again, haven't been paying close attention. I thought we played well vs UVA.

TT provides an opportunity, need to get at least 2. Really need to dominate the Northeast games and Big East.

Somewhat disappointing. We have been in every game so the one and two run losses hurt. Lots of positives to be had but also many things still left to iron out. The non conference slate haa been challenging but UConn has shot itself in the foot on chances to win each of these games. My fear is when the schedule gets softer that we may play down to our competition but that remains to be seen.

Tough night for UConn sports. Another 1 run loss for the baseball team, and a 3 point loss for hoop team. Many players on baseball team have not played up to their capabilities as of yet. Last night I think we lost the Creighton game because whole team ( minus Sanogo) did not play up to their capabilities. I reaaly feel the baseball team will turn it around, and we will have a good to very good season. Some of these 1 run games have to start going our way. Also feel the same about hoop team. Looking for a real nice run in NCAA.

Trying to change Mojo. Not updating list till after next 2 games. Bad weekend so far for UConn sports. Lets hope it changes with Hockey game, Nice bracket for hoop team and a Baseball turn around.

Go Huskies!!!

Sorry have not updated in a bit. Was hoping for a victory, and then update. After a loss or a losings streak, I am sometimes not motivated to update chart. Looking for a successful weekend for baseball team and hoop teams. Last weekend was a tough one, for baseball, men's hoop and hockey.

Baseball teams (obviously) needs to get on a winning streak. I think we are talented enough to do it. Just seems like things have not come together as of yet. I have a feeling this is the weekend we start.

Go Huskies !!!

Heading to the weekend... UConn’s RPI is #99. St. Joseph’s is #2 😉.
Who would have bet on those rankings at beginning of season. Great opportunity to get some wins vs #2 ( currently) RPI team. Big weekend

Ah, the joys of early baseball season RPI, even more so in this pandemic year where a number of teams have barely started playing if at all. I believe St. Joe's has played and won 4 games, and none of them against big name baseball schools. Still, road wins for UConn would be a valuable commodity.

Much needed win. Lets get another one tomorrow before hoop game. I will start posting RPI after this weekend.

Another 1 run loss. We are now 3-9 in 1 or 2 run games. If we were 6-6 in those games, our overall record would be 8-8. What a different feeling we would have right now. Can't say that the 17th game of season is a must win, but winning tomorrow would be a small step (winning a weekend) in hopefully turning this season around.

Lets first get a hoop win tonight.

@ucjoet - I know you were worried about site security issues w/ Warren Nolan. He's another option that appears to be readily accessed w/o subscription? Quick comparison shows it tracks Warren Nolan.

Thank you. Appreciate the info. My email was hacked a few months back. Lost all my work contacts and emails. Was able to restore almost everything, but it was a nightmare. So now I am skeptical of anything even slightly fishy. Thanks again

With the help of Huskymedic, I now will be updating the RPI. The RPI (29th) is only criteria we are in green. I know it is still very early, but at least it is something. Have CCSU (258) today and 3 with URI (18) this weekend. Obviously would love a sweep. But a win today and 2 of 3 from URI would work.

Really need to go on a little winning streak. This weekend could tell us a lot of how season will trend.

Very early but...

That definitely helps explain UConn being No. 27 in the RPI right now, together with playing all their games on the road with the exception of a couple neutral site games.

.-.
Did what we needed to do yesterday, got a win. Great pitching led the day. Hopefully that continues, and also our bats get hot this weekend. Stating the obvious, need to get wins under our belt. Thinking that should happen, with schedule easing up a bit. Our RPI is currently 25, and SOS at #3.

Lets win ( or sweep) series this weekend.

Nice comeback victory. We are on a modest 3 game winning streak. Never easy to win a doubleheader, but man would that be nice. In the last 7 games we are averaging just under 8.5 runs per game. If we can keep this up, we should win a good majority of upcoming games.

I made a couple of changes to chart. For some reason I thought we were originally scheduled to play St. Joes 5 times. But I guess I was wrong. So I changed stats in "Over Top 15 (out of conf)" line. I also added the SOS as a line item.

You are right, Saint Joe's was originally scheduled to play UConn five times this season. The Hawks were originally scheduled to play two games at UConn next Thursday and Friday at the start of the Easter weekend. However, those games got cancelled, and now UConn is playing three games against UMass instead of the two that were originally scheduled.

Clutch HR by Pat Winkel to get another much needed win. Lets sweep this doubleheader ( and series).

Anytime you win 3 of 4 games in a week, you should be satisfied. But with opportunity to go 4 of 4, I was a little let down after yesterday's loss. I realize we have played a very difficult early season schedule. But we have dug ourselves into a hole, and we need to get wins to turn this season around ( stating the obvious).

If my math is correct we have 38 regular season games left. I am going to breakdown season into 3 sections, with win goals for each section. I did not take into account who we are playing in each section 9little lazy this morning). If we reach or exceed these goals , we will be on track to meet my (unscientific) goal of 37 regular season wins. The record we would achieve if we meet these goals is 28 - 10 (.739%) over next 38 games. Seems like a lofty goal, but doable if everything starts to come together.

UConn may have 38 games left on the schedule, but that is 3 over the NCAA limit of 56 regular season games. I expect that they over scheduled on the assumption there will be either rainouts or Covid problems at some point. If not, then I would guess that the game against Rhode Island and the two games against Northeastern will get cancelled at some point.

Once UConn gets into Big East play. they will have several five game weeks. To make some headway, the Huskies will probably need to go 4-1 in those weeks. As usual, the Huskies need to win the vast majority of their midweek games, even though those games are not quite as weak as they have been in the past. UConn needs Pat Gallagher to become something of a reliable starter, and assuming that he gets moved to the weekends once the four game Big East weekends start up, they will need someone else to fill the midweek starting role. And obviously there is the question of what will happen to Joe Simeone's spot in the weekend starting rotation, as UConn obviously needs better than what they have gotten from that spot so far. Not sure who that will be at this point, but it always seems that some pitchers do develop a bit more reliability as the season progresses. Hopefully that will happen this season as well.

As Huskymedic stated in another thread, it is always nice to beat BC. But more importantly it was a win, and we desperately need every win possible. Great pitching and finally the last few innings were stress free. Important series with UMass this weekend. We need at minimum to win 2.

From info DBmill stated above regarding number of games, I am changing chart again. I am taking out the 3rd section of our intermediate goals and recalculating some of the other percentages. Will revisit the final third of season, once we see how schedule shakes out.

Here is another oddity of the schedule this season. If UConn does not have any cancellations of games due to weather or pandemic for the rest of the season (yes, that is a big if), it looks like the Huskies will only have three more midweek games this season. If this is the case, I would think the two games against Northeastern and the game against Rhode Island in May would be cancelled in order to observe the 56 NCAA mandated limit on regular season games. This is due to the Big East scheduling four game weekends in conference play.
