17-4 is pretty dominant.Probably true but we sure didn't help ourselves, having a victim mentality really doesn't help our cause. We need to dominate like Northeastern does, if the BE is so weak then dominate the conference.
Agree. Also injuries and mysteries were a big component. No Dalena, Suchy who replaced a weekend starter went down. GVE just never got fixed. Garbo seriously banged up (hand). A couple of arms never made it out of Thanksgiving. Just makes it that much more difficultThis is the wrong take. We went 23-2 to end the regular season. You’re not going 25-0, and losing to a Maine or Georgetown would have cancelled out beating Rutgers or Northeastern.
We’re not in because we started the season 0-3 against teams that ranged from mediocre to worse, and we never were fully able to dig out of that hole.
Probably true but we're going to have to get used to this.
Argument for the SEC is that their 13th team would far more often than not win against the second and third best BE teams. The argument against would be whether a team that far down the list in their own conference warrants consideration.
We're going to have to get used to the P4 (especially P2) squeezing everyone else down to as few opportunities as possible. The one thing that may offer a small amount of help to a school like ours is the B1G (in large part due to the two new LA schools) is pushing for a later start and end to the baseball season (to allow midwest B1G schools to be more competitive). They have sufficient clout to be at least listened to and all Northeast schools would benefit.
Unfortunately the committee doesn't look at that and looks at the losses. It certainly doesn't when you lose the 1st game of the BE tournament. Well let's hope Penders and hook C can bounce back from this better and stronger ever from this tournament snub.17-4 is pretty dominant.
Selection Committee Chair agrees:
Injuries caught up in the end as well.
you 100% can blame the conference. When you're forced to play half your league that is quad 4 and you go backwards in RPI after sweeping all of them, then yes you can blame the conference.UConn hurt themselves by not winning the games they needed to win to get in. Can't blame the conference for that!
if they don't schedule them their RPI's in the 50's or 60"s and not even considered. We lost series against Creighton and Xavier. Couldn’t come close to Northeastern at home. Scheduling the tough teams early backfired.
UConn beat UNC and Vandy. Enough said, they should be in. Limited SEC to no more than half it's conference. Maybe these mega conferences should be Anti-trusted into breaking up into pieces.Down the stretch, UConn didn't really beat too many quality opponents and that is what hurt us.
LOSERS
The Big East - Up until a few days ago, we thought the Big East was a legitimate three-bid league. Conference tournament champion Creighton ended up earning the league’s automatic bid, but for it to end up as a one-bid league—especially taking into account the resumes of UConn and Xavier—is surprising. The two clubs had comparable RPIs at 41 and 39, respectively, along with other favorable metrics. We’ll hit on Xavier a little further down, but UConn shared the regular-season conference title, compiled 38 overall wins, advanced to the conference tournament championship and totaled 12 quad-one and quad-two victories.
Snubs
Xavier - Not making the tournament is one thing. But Xavier not finishing among the first four teams out is another. The Musketeers had a strong case for an at-large bid. They finished the season with a top-40 (39) RPI to go along with the No. 33 strength of schedule, the fourth-best non-conference strength of schedule and 16 quad-one plus quad-two wins. Their 16 Q1+Q2 wins are more than Arizona State (9), Kentucky (12) and Kansas State (13), which all earned at-large bids. As a cherry on top, it’s hard to not wonder what would have happened if Xavier’s early-season midweek matchup against Louisville didn’t get canceled. Playing the hypothetical game is hardly ever productive, but a win in that game most likely would have shot Xavier further up the RPI ladder.
Can't keep walking hitters or giving them first base on a HBP. Wouldn't hurt to avoid giving up leads. 6-0 and you get beat.We had a good run. Cards didn’t fall our way. Pitching crashes and burns and we’re 1 selection away.
Penders should continue the early tough schedule and hope for a couple more wins. Lots of young arms to evaluate in the summer leagues.
Just could never understand the pitching staff. Seems like guys regressed from summer and fall ball.
Northeastern had a great year and they were definitely better than us "this year". You make it sound like that's the norm there. UCONN lost 2 out of 3 games on the road on their 7th and 8th straight weekends traveling. No one else in the country had to do that. If you think Kentucky, Arizona State, Cincinatti and OK State with 28 total wins and played 8 less games all deserve to get in before UCONN your'e nuts. This is 100% Power 4 $$$$ driven. Look at the 1st 4 out and tell me what they all have in common.Probably true but we sure didn't help ourselves, having a victim mentality really doesn't help our cause. We need to dominate like Northeastern does, if the BE is so weak then dominate the conference.
Kentucky had a losing record in it's conference. That should be an automatic see ya next year. The SEC wants all these teams, well "live by the sword, die by the sword".Kentucky took our spot. It’s disappointing, but the Big East was garbage this year. On the other hand, the SEC was pretty good. Such is life.
Not saying that its wrong. Didn’t work this year.if they don't schedule them their RPI's in the 50's or 60"s and not even considered.
Saying that it's primarily football would put this statement in that same category. All sports are at risk even if the timeline varies between them.Yes. We have only been winning one national championship in hoops a year for the last three years. The sky is falling.
Look — do I agree that in the long term, primarily for football, we need to be in a major all sports conference? Yes. But can we all stop with the patently stupid statements?
and if you can't win 30 total then? OK StateKentucky had a losing record in it's conference. That should be an automatic see ya next year. The SEC wants all these teams, well "live by the sword, die by the sword".
