Just over two weeks to the start of the 2025 UConn Baseball season. Always love this time of year, because with baseball starting it makes spring feel like its just around the corner. Looking forward to another strong UConn Baseball season. As I say every year, I want to thank everyone that post during the off season. I read every post and your updates are always appreciated. Also thanks in advance to the posters that update us during games. Sometimes that is the only way I am able to keep up on games.

My criteria for a post season bid has basically been the same for the last 16 years. The only addition has been the Conference RPI criteria. Over the last 2 years there have been 51 teams that have had 40 or more wins and an RPI of under 50. Of those 51 teams , 49 have made the NCAA tournament (.96%). The only 2 teams that missed out were Kent St in 2023, and Charleston in 2024. The Mid American conference (Kent St) had a conference RPI of 20, and the Coastal Atlantic (Charleston) had a conference RPI of 10. So I added a 4th criteria of Conference RPI of less than 10.

I totally understand that meeting the 4 criteria does Not guarantee a tournament bid, but I believe it gives us a good barometer to see if we are on track. Please look over chart and let me know if you have any questions. I cant wait for season to start.

GO Huskies!!!

PS. If anyone is attending the baseball event on Feb 6th, let me know. It would be nice to meet some fellow UConn Baseball Boneyarders

love this. thanks for doing it.

Hey businesslawyer, I know you are not the biggest fan of the metrics, and I actually get it. They are very simplistic and don’t take all possible variables into account. Example being last year we only had 32 regular season wins and we got in, not close to the goal of 40 wins. I actually changed the chart goals at mid season.

The chart is for amusement purposes, that gives us one barometer on if we are on track for an NCAA bid. It keeps me engaged in the season and I hope others enjoy it.

To be clear, I appreciate the effort and you giving us something — anything — to go by. Unlike others, I have no need to get into arguments about metrics with anyone. So everyone who likes keeping track based on this — and I look at it weekly — should go on happily doing so.

Wanted to wait until we got a victory to post the first update but maybe by posting the momentum changes. Not the start we were all hoping for. Let’s leave today with a victory.

Stating the obvious, not the start we were looking for. Need to break through with a win, to hopefully turn this around. Definitely need to cut down on strikeouts.

Who would have thought we would only have 2 wins after 9 games, with 1 of the wins over Vanderbilt. I know it’s not the start we want, but below are a few things to be hopeful about.

(1) We beat Vandy for first time ever. Hopefully a confidence builder

(2) Our strength of schedule is at number 3

(3) RPI is at 35

(4) Conference RPI at 8

Note: I realize it’s very early to take RPI seriously, but at 2-7 at least it’s something

2 out of 3 next weekend in Miami and they are ahead of last year record wise.

Love starting the weekend with a Friday night win. Pudvar ( and all pitchers) with great performances. Let’s get another win this evening.

Winning the series at Miami is great, but sweeping would be awesome. Three good performances in a row. Our strength of schedule is at 4, and RPI at 16. I know it’s early, but I like both those rankings.

Let’s get another win tomorrow.

Great to see UConn get a series win, but after this start to the season, really hoping for a sweep. Would make me feel like they are on the right path and turning it around.

Winning 2 out of 3 at Miami (who was 11-3 and 9-0 at home going into the series) form the ACC doesnt make you feel like they are on the right path because they lost Sunday? We put up 30 runs on a decent ACC staff and battled back multiple times on Sunday. Honestly, to anyone watching, we were the better team the first two games by far and held right with them on Sunday.

Tale of Two Cities? One has to feel good about our offense. But the pitching has been far, far from good enough to do anything in the post-season. We may be good enough offensively to outscore everyone and win the Big East regular season, but you're not going anywhere in the post-season without being to get some quality starts.

Every year, there are guys that move in and out of the lineup before Big East play. Pitchers as well. Devin Kirby did not become a factor until a month left in the season a few years ago. The pitching will be better because guys will take their opportunity. Pudivar and Ellison are going to improve. Cooke has a ceiling, we just need him to get there and he usually kicks in after about 5 starts. Abedessa, Caruso, Afthim form a great back end to the bullpen. Shaw and Hutchinson look like they have upside. After that, who else will improve and get better? And where is Ben Schild?

I am disappointed since Ellisen was moving toward becoming a consistent starter until yesterday's game in Miami. The team is still looking for their ace.
