For the rest of the season, UConn plays a lot more weaker teams than they have been playing, and they also play a lot more games at home. Neither of these things are going to help keep their RPI up in the range it is now.

Like I mentioned in a previous post, I’m usually an optimist and it takes a lot before I give up on a possible At Large Bid opportunity. But I’m thinking we need a sweep this weekend to keep our slight hopes alive, even though dbmill points out (correctly) how difficult a sweep is to pull off.

Let’s see what we can do.

Go Huskies!!!

Well we got the sweep we desperately needed, and also evened our record to 17-17. The first time this year we are at the .500 mark. Still a lot of work to do.

Go Huskies!!!

Thanks as always. I've been all in on Basketball and Hockey, then the Masters. Soon NBA playoffs, yet I still want to follow UConn baseball. This thread is a life saver in providing a snapshot of where we are. Now I need to catch a few games to watch.

Always nice beating BC in any sport. Our bats were on fire, but pitching still worries me.
Coincidentally last year we were 17-17 going into the BC game and lost. So this year with the win we are actually 1 game ahead of last year’s record at 18-17. We obviously tore through our Big East schedule last year. Need to do same thing this year, but our conference RPI is bothersome. We are currently at 12, where last year we were at 7.

Only thing we can do is keep winning.

Go Huskies!!!

When every game feels like a must win, what a great comeback to get the victory. A win tomorrow gets us 2 sweeps in a row. I’m heading to the game on Tuesday, and would love watching them going for there 22nd win.

After the sweep of Seton Hall this weekend, UConn baseball is now tied with Xavier for 1st place in the Big East standings. Not bad at all! Of course, Xavier took the series with UConn at the beginning of Big East play.

Another much needed sweep. This season is reminding me a lot of last season. Slow start, then went on a streak. Last year after 38 games we were 20-18, so we are 1 victory ahead of last year’s record.

The conference RPI bothers me in that we are currently 12th, compared to last year being at 7. Of our last 17 games, only 5 games are vs teams with an RPI of under 100. Also 8 of the games are vs teams with RPI of 195 to 270.

The only thing we can keep on doing is to win the next game. It worked out last year, let’s see if we can do it again.

Go Huskies!!!

What are the chances we drop the Army game on Wednesday? I doubt we cancel the UMass game because it’s at Dunkin but the weather is iffy.

Every time I want to give up on this team, then about this time of year they turn it on. I just don't know however. The pitching this year is such a mess, way too many free passes and it just doesn't seem to be getting better. If you asked me if they deserve to make the tourney I would say no, but then again I probably have said that the last few years and then I find myself in some southern college town in early June watching a team very much worthy of being in post season baseball. The RPI numbers this year have me confused. To me they have played a much tougher schedule this year then last, plus have great victories over Vandy and UNC and 2 out of 3 on the road at Miami. Vandy just swept Georgia this weekend and Miami has taken the first 2 from Ga Tech so maybe that gives us a bump? I guess its the Big East that is bringing us down, but is it that much worse then any other year? I guess so. I would say the future looks so bright with Freshmen Lane and Rispoli and many other key contributors being under classmen, but in today's portal world you never know. I know I'll keep cheering them on, know I'll get frustrated, but hopefully we can figure this pitching thing out and just maybe we will be playing into June again.

Big East has some awful awful teams.

The Big East is certainly not a great baseball conference, but I do not think it is absolutely horrible either, at least in comparison to conferences that are below it in the RPI. Still it is quite possible that it will not get any at large bids to the NCAA Tourney, but we will see what happens. The Big East has 4 teams that are in the Top 100 in RPI, and 3 teams right now that are over 200 in the RPI range, and that last part certainly isn't good.
