Sorry have been away for a while. Unfortunately had 2 funerals over last 7 - 10 days , of relatives of friends of ours.. So even though I have been following , was not up to posting updates. Glad to see we are on a 5 game inning streak. A win today plus 2 wins vs 2 beatable teams ( mid week), would be huge. Get us to 21 - 15, leading into a big series with ECU.

Need to keep winning to have any chance at an At Large bid. Put we would still have a decent chance at winning tourney, because there does not seem to be any unbeatable AAC teams.

Looking for a sweep today. Go Huskies

Huge win today and a much needed sweep of a very good Houston team. Couple of observations below.

(1) We are in second place in AAC with a 5 - 3 record. Half game behind Cinci.

(2) We have the third best RPI in AAC at 65. Trailing only Tulane ( 63) and ECU (30).

(3) We currently have a 6 game winning streak. Did not check but I believe the longest of the year.

(4) I am placing the next 2 games in the must win category, if we are going to compete for an at large bid. Both games are away, which makes it more difficult. We are at UMass ( rpi 281) and UMass- Lowell (172). With these 2 wins it gets our record to 21 -15 before a big / important weekend series at ECU.

GO HUSKIES

Wow, Could have won 2 yesterday vs #20 ECU. A win today would be huge. Seems like we are doing fine vs the better teams on schedule , then shot our self in foot vs teams we should beat. Only if we had 2 more wins from our Northeast games , we would have been at 23 - 15 and right on pace for an at large bid. Nothing we can do now put keep winning.

After 4 weeks of Conference Play...

The hell w/ "at large bid" -- we can still win this puppy outright!;)

UConn has another series to play against East Carolina, in Storrs during graduation weekend. That series will certainly be tough. The other three remaining series are against Memphis, UCF, and USF, the bottom three teams in the league. I would think those three series represent a batch of winnable games that could move the Huskies up the standings in the AAC.

Two big wins yesterday, by that I mean games we just need to win. Also need to take care of business today, heading into a huge home series with ECU next weekend. We are inching closer to each Post Season Criteria goal below. There is no question we can win AAC tourney and get a bid, but would love to keep winning and place us in good shape for an At Large bid.

Wow! Baseball America is probably as respected a baseball periodical that there is. I wouldn't have guessed UConn being projected as just being out of the NCAA tourney. There is a real opportunity for the Huskies to make the tournament, that is, if they go off and win a bunch of games to close the regular season and then make some noise at the AAC tourney.

Have 7 games left in regular season. For us to have a shot at an At Large Bid, we probably need to win a minimum of 5 of these game and make a run in AAC tourney. I realize we can very well win the tourney, but it would be nice if we can go on a season ending win streak and get consideration for an at large bid. Big home series with UCF this weekend.

With the 4 game win streak we have going, it has given me more hope for a possible at large bid. Of course , I am hoping we win AAC tourney, then don't have to worry . Thinking we need the following to happen.

(1) Win at least 4 of next 5 regular season games.

(2) Get to AAC championship game. That would mean an extra 3 or 4 wins.

(3) Root against Houston doing well. As of right now they seem to have the 3rd best resume in AAC. If our records end up being relatively similar, I would hope us sweeping them would give us a tiebreaker advantage.

If this happens it would get us to a minimum of 35 wins. Also we would be a hot team at end of year ( winning 11 of 14).

Also even though it is great we come back in all these games, I would love to have some games less dependent on the last 4 innings.

Go Huskies

Does anyone know what the resolution will be with regards to the two games that were postponed? Will they be discarded or will an attempt (neutral site?) be made to play them?

Don't know as a fact, but I believe I read that they will Not be made up.

The rain shortened game against Memphis counts in the standings as a UConn loss. The game against Tulane was cancelled and I don't expect it will be made up.

Another much needed win today. Only 4 regular season games left ( vs URI, and 3 away at USF) getting 3 wins minimum would be huge. Besides my usual graph, I also have updated list of last teams in and out of NCAA tourney from Baseball America ( dated May 11) . Still holding out hope for an at Large bid if we don't win tourney. With a good finish , we may just sneak in.

Per Baseball America ( May 11), Records / RPI updated as of today

Last 4 In
Cal 27 -18 , 53
Neb 33-18 , 50
Gonz 29-15 , 40
BC 28-18 , 43

First 4 out
Mary 26 -24 , 76
Duke 31-20 , 25
Pitt 25-22 , 63
St. Mary 26-22 , 82

Next 4 out
Lous Tech 34-15 , 46
Lamar 32-16 , 74
Jacksonville 32-18 , 64
High Point 29-20 , 85

We are currently at 29-22, RPI 73. Looks to me we would be at top of next 4 out group. Will be interesting to see where Baseball America places us next week. Still think if we win 3 of 4 regular season games and get to AAC championship game we should be in .

Below is updated info from Baseball America regarding last teams in and out of NCAA tourney. Little surprised because I thought we would move into the next 4 out category. Really need at least 2 this weekend, but a sweep would go a long way into at least getting us in conversation.

Still thinking we need minimum of 2 this weekend, plus need to get to championship game of AAC tourney. Crazier things have happened.

Last Four In: California, Nebraska, Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston State
First Four Out: Boston College, Oregon State, North Florida, Jacksonville
Next Four Out: Marshall, Michigan State, Northwestern State, Georgia

Great way to start series. Need at least 1 of next 2, but really hoping to sweep this series. I think that would put us in conversation for At Large bid, with a good performance in AAC tourney.

Last 4 In

Cal 29-18 , 50
Neb 36-18, 42
Lous tech 36-16, 41

Chris Jones on WHUS has been saying that if UConn wins out in this final series against USF and loses in the AAC finals that the Huskies would probably still be somewhere on the bubble for making the NCAA tournament, which would mean maybe they get in, and maybe they don't. Given what has been posted above, I would definitely agree with that analysis. The one good thing that if UConn made it to the finals it would probably mean that the Huskies would have to beat either Tulane or East Carolina twice, which would certainly be a big help to their NCAA resume. Problem is, both Tulane and East Carolina are very good teams that have been big trouble for UConn this year. The Huskies have definitely been playing better of late, but it is also important to remember that with the exception of the East Carolina series in Storrs, that the Huskies in recent weeks have been playing teams from the bottom half of the standings.

Big win today to keep our at large bid hope alive. Our RPI is currently at 52, would be nice to get it into the 40's. Think we need to get to championship game, plus have some teams ahead of us in record / RPI lose. At that point we may slip in as one of the last teams in. Also hoping the NCCA selection comitte takes into account our late season win streak ( realize it was vs lower half of AAC, but still impressive).

Think if we do get in we can cause some damage

Also below are Baseball Americas teams we are competing against for last few bids

Last Four In: California, Nebraska, Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston State
First Four Out: Boston College, Oregon State, North Florida, Jacksonville
Next Four Out: Marshall, Michigan State, Northwestern State, Georgia

I have re-ranked them based on current record and RPI ( obviously slightly biased towards us)

Postseason Picture: Conference Rundown | D1Baseball.com

American (No. 6 RPI conference)
Tulane won its rubber game at Houston 4-3 to win the American regular-season title by a half-game over East Carolina. Assuming one of those two teams wins the conference tournament, the AAC will be a two-bid league — the Cougars might have had a shot at an at-large bid had they won Saturday but instead they finished 11-12 in the league and No. 71 in the RPI.

Tulane, meanwhile, climbed inside the top 30 in the RPI (No. 27) and owns a decent 9-6 record against the top 50 and a nice 18-10 mark against the top 100. Throw in the regular-season conference title, and the Green Wave is strongly in the hosting mix.
