Why we won't have a good student section at Dallas

I was there in 2011 and i remember talking to some Butler fans who told me they told me they were bused down for free by the school. Pretty sure they mentioned that their hotels were paid for as well.

I am sorry but I cannot imagine a school transporting and housing students at the final four gratis.
The school should work with a local bus company and see if they could work out something based on a minimum number of guaranteed attendees.
Also not many hotels - especially in that area will want hundreds of students partying and abusing their rooms - this isn't a spring break destination where the owners know what to expect and price accordingly. To make it work the school will need to work out a deal with a hotel for discount and then the added thought of damage.
Perhaps they could enter an agreement with an area university to provide temp housing such as shared rooms with existing students, etc.
As far as sales to students I really like the idea of the more sporting events you attend the better chance you get of acquiring any tickets to any event.

We've been to 5 final fours in 15 years for god's sake. The athletic dept has had plenty of time to figure this thing out. The fact that they still seem to be scrambling is just shameful.

It's not inconceivable by any means. But like I said, I know transportation was covered but not positive on hotels...

This mentality is why our student section was half full in Houston.

Explain.

You'll make a fool of yourself but explain why you believe half the student seats were unsold.

According to another thread, the University sold it's obligated block of hotel rooms already. Or at least met some kind of quota. So that's pretty cool.
