Similarly to how embarassing our showing was in 2011, I don't expect our student section to be close to full in Dallas.
Why? It's not an issue of lack of support/fans the students, we have plenty of those. The reason why will be because of our terrible Student-section lottery ticket system that still remains in place.

The student-section ticket lottery is a JOKE! Students who are not basketball fans enter the ticket lottery only with the intention of up-selling the tickets to the hungry basketball fans who are willing to pay double their face value.

That's fine-and-dandy for the regular season games.
However, guess who gets an e-mail from the university offering up the discounted student-section tickets to the final 4? That's right... all of those students who entered and 'WON' the lottery with no intention of going to the games. All of the unlucky die-hard fans that didn't win the lottery and had to buy tickets off another student will not get the Final4 ticket e-mail.

Some die-hard students that didn't win the lottery will get lucky and get in contact with a student who is willing to sell their Final4 student tickets, but again, they will be up-sold most likely. But a majority of the students who entered themselves in ticket lottery with the only intention of up-selling their tickets will not do anything regarding the Final4 student ticket e-mail and the tickets will go to waste. We will have another embarrassing showing from our student section, and it won't be the students' fault.

The student ticket lottery system is broken, and it must be fixed. The university is the only one who can fix it. Bring back the camp-out so that only our most dedicated fans are getting the tickets and that no one can easily enter an online lottery and up-sell them.

Why has no one from the Daily Campus put this on the front page of the sports section?! It's an obvious gaffe from our Athletic department and it's been an ongoing issue since I was a Junior there 5 years ago. The student ticket lottery system needs to be fixed. Until it is, I'd expect another weak student section turn-out in Dallas.

Before I get flamed for this post, I #bleedblue and this was mostly posted with a constructive mindset. I want the problem fixed.

not just that, the kids most likely will have trouble getting there... UConn needs to do what Butler and VCU did in 2011 and other schools do when they get to the final four. Have Alumni and other people donate to get them out there... Maybe some of the NBA alumni will pitch in

Completely agree with you, but this should not be an issue for the FF. It was a huge problem for the last two rounds because only 200 student tickets were available and the games were being played at MSG. Now that going to the FF involves airfare and 4 nights at a hotel I do not expect it to be a problem. The bigger issue I have is with UConn not setting up some kind of transportation/hotel deal for students because that would make it much easier to go. Nonetheless the ticket system should be changed ASAP.

In my eye's its a BIGGER issue with the final 4. It's a directly attributable reason why we had barley 1/2 of our student section filled in 2011. If a student 'won' the lottery and is not a basketball fan, why would they go through the process of FINDING another student who is willing to go to the Final 4 and log-in to their peoplesoft and purchase their tickets for someone else via their lottery 'win'!? The credit card that the tickets are purchased with needs to match the student ID.

Students 'winning' the lottery should not be the ONLY students receiving the Final4 ticket e-mail if just ANY STUDENT can apply for and win the lottery!

The whole process is a JOKE!!! There is no foresight at ALL! How this has not gotten through to the administration after the 2011 gaffe is an absolute embarrassment. And our showing in Dallas will be one as well.

Hopefully we don't undo all the goodwill and reputation our fanbase earned through our impressive showing at MSG.

Fair or not, the perception that our fans don't travel to national events (Fiesta Bowl, Final Fours) could leave hesitance in the minds of power-conference leaders.

Agreed. And the sad part of the issue is that we DO have PLENTY fans willing to travel. The university simply does a poor job of appealing and accommodating to those fans. Poor administration.

Again, I hope someone from the Daily Campus can pick this story up and ride with it.

Student season ticket holders get the first opportunity to buy FF tickets. Kids are not going to buy them and try and resell for higher because so many are available. Starting tomorrow at 6pm all other students will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets. I don't see how the system will impact the amount of students that make the trip to Dallas.

Don't forget that the women will most likely be in the final four as well, so the fan base will be split with most going to see the men.

Getting tickets (at least this year) isn't a problem. Getting to Dallas?

....

Might be a 2011 repeat in all honesty.

What ever happened to road trips?

We drove down to Mardi Gras. We drove from Boston to Ft. Lauderdale. We always took road trips.

If any student wants to sign up and sell me his/her ticket, I would be more than happy to pay a reasonable price for it (Sorry if any rules on this board are broken by this post).

I live in Bellaire, TX and have been fortunate enought to see us win in Houston and San Antonio. Seeing the Dallas trifecta would be awesome. Thanks.

P.S. I would be looking for 3/4 itckets - me and my three kids - one may not want to go but I'd def. take 3.

A lot of students bought the expensive tickets to MSG this weekend as well. How many college kids will have money after Spring Break, MSG and now this?

VCU was so excited in 2011 that they set up transportation, hotel and tickets under one affordable package. I just don't understand why we don't do that as well. How hard is it to make a deal with a hotel with the promise of bringing hundreds of students down there?

Our NBA alumni seem very into this season so it would be great if they pitched in. With only a few days to organize something, that may be a big challenge.

How about this. Make the lottery a contract which prohibits resale above face value. Penalty is expulsion from University.

Well honestly, as of now that's starting to look like my only option. If I could get enough of my buddies together, we'll probably end up doing that. But the fact is a large majority of the students won't want to do that or just don't have time. I know that I'd be missing a bunch of class that I honestly can't afford to miss if I did that. But I love this team too much so I don't care

I did too but class is in session, and it still costs a pretty good amount of time, money and labor for what might amount to 2 hours of basketball.

Head out after the game on Monday night, do your partying between Saturday night and Monday afternoon. Be back for Tuesday class.

In 2011 I did not win the lottery, bud I did get an email from the school and purchased tickets.

The lack of transportation/subsidy is what caused the issue. That caused the lottery winners to pass. After they pass the entire student body was given the opportunity and most still didn't take it.

I was there in 2011 and i remember talking to some Butler fans who told me they told me they were bused down for free by the school. Pretty sure they mentioned that their hotels were paid for as well.

Alum tickets require purchasing a hotel room. I would assume the student ticket is the same deal.

This was true of VCU as well.
