Who We Want to Win (Besides Us, Of Course)

Too early to say anything aside from I really want to face St. John’s in the Elite Eight matchup.

A chance for redemption after the first two losses against them would be so freakin’ cathartic.

It's remarkable how my love of college basketball (which is huge) depends on UConns relevance. I don't even think I watched the tourney the year Baylor won.
If they lose I check out.

As for Baseball, its different. If my Rays dont make the playoffs, or get knocked out, I'm still dialed in. I feel bad for people who didn't watch last year's WS
 
I'm generally a negative person, so outside of UConn and then our Big East brethren, I don't root for anyone. I root against teams. Duke, UNC, Syracuse, BC, Louisville, & Kentucky can't lose enough for me for various reasons. Even though most are in the ACC, my hatred for a couple started when they were in the Big East.
For a couple of those schools, I told my son I'd be proud of him if he got accepted to and decided to attend said school, but if he brings me home any of their gear for Christmas, it would be burned in the fire pit. Thankfully, he chose the good guys and is graduating this spring. Go Huskies!
 
My list.
1. Nebraska - Always liked Nebraska football in the Osborne era (Counterpoint, Kansas may need to poach their coach)
2. Iowa State - good program, would be nice to get some new blood in the champion ranks. They have great fans.
3. Iowa - Watched UConn vs Iowa in Sweet 16 in 1999 with a law school friend who went to Iowa
4. Houston - Mostly because Hakeem and Drexler deserved one.
5. The tournament should be cancelled before allowing the others to win.

Better that the entirety of Queens sinks into the Atlantic than that they and Pitino in particular win. I wouldn't have minded Louie winning one.

I guess it would be nice to prolong, but it won't last long. They have 3 different teams winning the CFB NC, and as you can see, are dominating the the S16. Not sure there is a win here. Of the favs, we certainly don't want Duke, Houston/AZ gives the B12 a NC and cements their position hoops and not needing us.

Pull for the BE. As Saban suggested, the B10 has the $$. It's inevitable.

I hate St. John's. I hate their arrogant smug fair weather fans. I hate Pitino. I hate Ejiofor for injuring Demary. You can't argue with hate. 😀Although I'm not rooting for Duke either. Hopefully it's a cage match to the death. For both of them.

It really makes little sense financially, and for the betterment of the BE while we are still there. Better to have another program helping with the torch versus carrying it yourself.

This is a fascinating question. I know a ton of big 10 fans/SEC/big 12 fans who root for any team in their conference, even the newbies because they say it's good for the conference but I think that's different They dont need any help.

But for the Big East, especially in light of everything happening, us winning 5 of the last 10 rings is a statement. I'm not gonna root for anyone else but st johns winning would be best for us. But I see why it'd be hard to muster that strength

Pitino trying to become the 1st coach to win 3 Titles at 3 different schools. He'll definitely go down as the GOAT if he wins this year with St. Johns. I believe he's still the only coach to win 2 Titles at 2 different schools.

I guess if as a fan you care about revenue over actually despising that team, you’d be right.

Dan Hurley isn’t a fan, it makes some sense for him to want them if UConn doesn’t. For an actual fan, it makes zero sense. I HATE St. John’s.

Also, it doesnt make sense for a lot of us fans, some who just want the easiest road but I truly believe Hurley loves to compete against the best. Guy WANTS to face Pitino.

Was listening to Sirius college sports show and they were talking about Dan rooting for St John's. They came up with every other reason besides the one that I believe to be true:

Danny doesnt think Duke is better and wants to avoid them-He wants the Blood Bath he referred to. He's not built like us, or those radio hosts. He wants to face his toughest competitor.

It makes sense for UConn because outside of the Huskies winning it all another league member winning it all would be by far the best result for UConn.

UConn fans should be rooting for what's good for UConn.

So for those of you who think we should root for St Johns if for some unimginable reason we lose. I am Red Sox fan, should I root for the Skankees because they are in the AL East? Not a freakin chance of that happening. When I was in my college days (50 years ago) we started a club called the ABY club - anybody but the Yankees and the origional members are still in it.
 
This whole telling people who they should root for and why is ridiculous and pointless. People will root how they want to and each fan has their own reason whether that's logical to you or not. it's sports and fans will be fans.
