who was the 1 recruit that got away calhoun years..

Curley would have fit that UConn team perfectly. The Sunday before he committed Bob Ryan wrote an article in the Globe saying that if he didn't go to BC, BC should give up basketball. I honestly think that had some effect.

BCU should have given up basketball. That wold have saved everyone years of heart ache.

Calhoun probably only landed about 12 McDonalds All Americans in his entire career. His real gift was to find top 40, top 50 players like Ray Allen, Ben Gordon, along with some international finds, Nadav Henedeld, Doran Scheffer, and some unknown bigs like Voskul, Thabeet, Hilton Armstrong, Okafor and develop them all into stars.
I don't think he even had five. Hamilton and Donyell, yes, but who else? Kemba? Charlie?
Might just be my memory is bogged down with all the posts about Timberland.

Women
That was while at UMass. Could Cal have learned from Pitino or was it Bayno that arranged the side benefits since it was him that arrived at Camby's home at 12:01 AM to sign the papers before JC showed up at 8 AM?

Donyell, Charlie, Kemba, El-Amin, Rip, Rudy, Taliek, Hazleton, Oriakhi.

Bynum but he opted for NBA. Guys like Caron, Drummond and Daniels would've been if they were eligible.

I might be missing one.

Bayno was always there when we were scheduled to see Marcus and he would whisper in his mom's ear as soon as we left to spin almost anything JC said or did as an insult to Camby.

It was Spears however who arranged the hookups.

I remember the Ike Diogu recruitment as being a painful recruitment even though I wouldn't classify it as the "biggest loss." Too lazy to look but think he ended up choosing Arizona St. Also remember the Nik Caner-Medley recruitment saga. Maryland played an exhibition with a team with a lame name like Beltway Ballers or something and it aided the recruitment (team got paid for playing I think-can't remember particulars). Then the next year we did the same thing with Rudy Gay and played a similar exhibition and Gary Williams had an aneurysm and complained. Didn't like when the shoe was on the other foot. I think shortly after this those types of exhibitions were banned...but we got Rudy.

Good thing Caron reconsidered on his verbal to UNLV and Calhoun came into his living room and blew away Caron, his mom, and grandma.

I forgot about Oriakhi, Taliek and Hazelton......how did he get picked?

Bayno sure hit the skids after he left Coach Cal. Wonder if he was up to similar shenanigans as a head coach?

Jay Williams wanted to come to UConn but Calhoun gave his scholarship to Tony Roberson.

That didn’t happen. He never gave a verbal to UNLV.

He committed to UConn and then visited UNLV because Good begged him to - Calhoun called him while he was in LV and Butler told him not to worry.

I did forget that Dan Langhi committed to UConn in the class with Rip, etc. Backed out to go to Vandy. Wasn’t top 100, but was a really good four year player for them.

I doubt anyone chose Tony over Jay Williams. He was top 5 recruit at least. I remember we came second to Duke.

Not according to Caron...

Tony Scott and Perry Clark were guys we thought we had a great shot to get in the early Calhoun years.

Williams talked about this on ESPN Radio a few weeks ago. He was ready to commit. He called Calhoun who told him the scholarship went to Robertson. Williams says he talks about that call to this day when he sees Calhoun.
