So is the Wholley rumor that he is joining our staff -- which would be great -- or that he is our new DC -- which I'm not sure I'd be happy with. Wholley was a walk-on TB here, with just a few years coaching experience. I'm less concerned about the D than the O, but it still leaves me a bit uncertain.

Yes. The quickest way to guaranty results is to hire folks who have no experience recruiting players whatsoever.
Neither has recruiting experience on the college level, true. But, Marinan coached at Xavier (a private school), that can "draw" kids from anywhere in the state. Cochran recruited at Bloomfield, recruited at New Britain, turned New London into a Magnet School so he could bring kids in and I'm sure he "found" kids to play at Harding, as well. Both are well connected in the coaching fraternity along the East Coast. It's likely won't happen, but it's not far fetched. Both, have been involved in recruiting from both ends. Selling their programs to prospective high school athletes (and their parents) as well as dealing with college coaches recruiting their players. They both have an eye for talent and understand the recruiting process.

I don't know that he has just a few years experience at this point. He coached at CCSU, with an acquaintance of mine about a decade ago. He's been at this a while. Is he qualified for DC ?no idea.

hmmmmm....
Rossomando has OC/OL coaching experience. He recruited my brother to play for Tony Spartans at UNH. Maybe Rossomando as OC, see if Sparano (Minnesota Vikings OL Coach) will join him. Sparano is considered one of the best OL coaches in the NFL.

Rossomando coaching OL? I can live with that.

Not that my opinion counts for anything, but Rossomondo popped up on my radar 3 years ago for head coach. At the time, Rossomondo's honors included a recent national coach of the year (2012 - D2), 3 time conference COY, and a .700+ winning percentage at a recently resurrected program. I was pooed pooed basically because New Haven is D2. Though the poster was likely right at the time ("...I think this board would explode if WM went w/ a DII coach as "his choice" (quality coach or not)."). In hindsight he couldn't have done much worse than what actually happened in Storrs/East Hartford since then. On the other hand, Rossomondo hasn't exactly set the world on fire at Central.

All that being said, I think Rossomondo would be nothing but a positive addition to the UConn family.

He has a good number of kids from FFC, the Hartford suburbs, and Ansonia on his current roster. I know this is a whole other argument, but there's 3-star talent in these areas that can really help us win if we have guys with connections on the staff who can lock it down.

He also has great connections to recruits in the NY, NJ, PA areas.

Do you even read posts before adding something insufferable and negative? I said "we would benefit if he remained close to the program". We would benefit if a lot of former players remained close. that does not mean he can or should coach. Christ, Bama brings alums back to practice against 1st team - it's no wonder we think we look good in practice, we're beating the snot out of our 2d team! Let's get former players involved, formally and informally.

Didn't you bail on UConn in a whiney hissy fit a few months ago? Was that you?

Hiring a Connecticut coach as a position coach could prove fruitful.

Are you kidding???????? We need established coaches with recruiting connections outside of Connecticut. Uconn doesn't get top recruits out of Connecticut they pushed away by their coaches.

I don't see why extending a hand of opportunity to a CT high school coach, if the situation was a good fit for UConn, is a bad thing. Your talking about one position coach that might be able to open recruiting doors otherwise closed to UConn. Some very good college/pro coaches started in high school like Mike Holmgren, Bill Walsh, Woodie Hayes, Chip Kelley, Gus Malzahn and oh yeah that Vince Lombardi guy.

Yes, I said I would not renew season tickets based on the performance of the team. Based on published stats of season tix holders, it appears I was in the 50% crowd that have bailed over the years. I hadn't thought about it as a whiny, hissy fit, but I imagine coming from one of the all-time whiny, hissy so-called fans, I can see how it might have sounded like that. Not sure how one would equate that to bailing, but understanding your level of reading comprehension, I can see how you would read that. Please share some more of your internal misery with all of us, it is scintillating.

Oh, and back to the topic at hand, do you not want former players associated with the program? I can type that slower for you if it would help.

Well, truth be told - there has been rumors/innuendos that they have been recruiting high school players in CT for years :p (well at least Xavier has no town residency issues).

Recruiting high school players in CT?? What are we Florida?? Here, Plant High and Armwood are always trying to recruit the best football players in Hillsborough County (the country is about 1/4 the size of Connecticut, if not bigger). Both of those schools are nationally ranked, but here you can see the transfers - one player in south Hillsborough (who is in the Lennard High district) transferred to Plant High (which means a bus for about 2 hours one way.) Hillsborough Schools academically is failing...

CCSU is not exactly known for being an Alabama....matter of fact, I don't think the smaller state schools (CCSU, WCSU, ECSU, SCSU) cares about athletics. Maybe CCSU in basketball...since they hired D.Marshall.

Sigh...

... but since you went down this road. SCSU hired Scott Burrell so maybe they care about basketball too???

Well, truth be told, states arguing over the residency issue can be found at the bottom of (state) recruiting lists. Do you really think southern states, TX, even NJ give a darn about residency issues when it comes to HS football (or basketball)?

It's revealing that in CT a Coach is vilified for pushing the boundaries to create winning football teams and great offenses. And the guy did work summer camps in the NE and 7 on 7's with many of the top prospects so he knows his way around.

Hopefully he brings in a few NFL guys. A lot of assistants lost their jobs up there this past week. Hope we find a few that had a bunch of success b4 this season'starts woes. The NFL is a what you've done for me lately league. Top coaches get let go all the time. Bring'em to Storrs Randy.
