What's wrong with Gilbert now?

Get well AG, the team needs you

Bet the mortgage that none of the "professional" writers that cover the Huskies will ask Hurley about the face punch and why it didn't call for an ejection or, at least, a foul. And why didn't Hurley push the issue with the refs?

I really feel bad for they guy. Just let him take the rest of the season off. We need him back out there for us next season

It’s fair to say.. Dan Hurley isn’t critical enough of referees.

That’s a totally coherent conclusion to reach.

When Gilbert was walked off Hurley was on the court barking, I think.

So they called a flagrant one on us on what appeared to be a marginal call to us, but not when Gilbert had his face smashed

Classic

Confirmed or your guess? - hoped it wasn't broken cheek bone or eye orbit.

They had his nose packed with cotton on the floor - really did not look like anything to do with his eyes.

Ton of blood, though. I really got nervous when I saw so much of it on the side of his head, but it came from his nose.

I'll be surprised if we see him again this year. Just does not seem worth the risk.

Thanks couldn't see him from my side of the court - blocked by temple players. Noses can bleed a ton, seen it as a school nurse.

People ITT are laughing at OP, it is true that this was a freak punch in the face, but it is also undeniable that AG has trouble staying on the floor. At the end of the first half AG dove for a ball, was slow to get up and had to be taken out of the game as well. I love the kid but it is extremely frustrating as a fan.

They're calling it a "facial injury" so I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Certainly a lot of our problems over the past several years are self-inflicted but I've never seen such bad luck with any sports team I've followed, it's literally one injury and freak occurence after another. I'm almost expecting a floor board to pop up and impale someone at this point.

He got popped in the nose. He’s not concussed. Maybe a broken nose at worse. Hurts like hell. In the old days you plug the bleeding and get back on the court. Today they have to run you through an full neurological exam and fMRI machine if your hair is out of place. Not the kid’s fault.

I had a vision of Alan Ray.

For those who need a refresher...Ray was a Villanova kid going after a loose ball. So was a Georgetown player. The Hoya took a swipe for the ball, missed, but ended up whacking Ray in the face so hard his eye popped out of the socket.

I had the same thought\concern while he was on the floor.

That was actually my first thought.

Only with Alterique Gilbert can you hear the announcers talking about a 'lot of blood' and actually be relieved.

To be fair to Willie, I had no idea what happened from Gampel. I couldn't see any blood from my seats. I gathered that there was a lot of blood when they came out with all the towels, but really didn't know where it was coming from.
