They did, but they also weren't getting the best players in Texas to stay away from Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, etc. The SEC had already effectively cornered the market in Texas.Respectfully i disagree. Texas football, like our BB is hard to kill or die on the vine. That is what all of our old BE foes thought would happen. Texas just went through some bad FB hires.
If you look at the top 20 recruits from Texas (Rivals) for the years 2022, 2021, 2019, 2018, you'll find that the lion's share went to the SEC. Then examine last year. Texas all of the sudden is grabbing large portions. I expect that will keep growing after this year as well.
To UConnBill's point, the B1G hadn't done better than the SEC in terms of Texas recruiting for a while now. But with NIL?? I expect that to change too, just like the illusion that the SEC is the "be all end all"...
