What is your take on Hurley and the Refs?

First things first no matter what coach Hurley says or does on the sidelines I will always support him. With back to back championships and what he has done for this program I owe him that much. Now do I like watching him act like an immature childlike lunatic after a foul is called? No I hate watching him flop around like a fish out of water or making faces that become highlights on ESPN. I don’t enjoy watching him being restrained by his coaching staff every time he is losing. He needs to reel in that anger and bottle it. And if he chooses not to change he will always be the guy who will have my support.

So you are just fine with a 40-24 foul shot discrepancy, and a ref compounding a terrible call by calling a technical when it was criticized. This led to a 98 to 48 foul shot margin over 3 games or 50 shots - clearly insanity in itself.
As for Driscoll history and attitudes, I know what I am talking about.

Stop it Chief. You’re better than this. Hurley has been acting like a jerk. Any ref would have called a T in that situation, especially when Hurley had been going at it all game. He threw a tantrum like a 2-year old.

And we get called for fouls because we are playing poor defense. Just like teams are shooting lights out from 3 for that reason.

2 years ago he was the 1st national writer I saw who was a big early proponent of the Huskies with his post season predictions.

I watched Auburn throughout the tourney and Pearl is an idiot. His team gets away with murder and he’s still moaning that’s bs. Dan got screwed game 1 and he had a reason to rant although some is on him. Bruce should just s t and be happy they treat him ok.

Nope. Once the team stops fouling and Danny stops acting like a donkey the refs will stop calling fouls.

I'm fine with him "behaving badly" on the court. It's better than having a drunk driving Mark Few or woman beater Chris Beard as coach.

Both can be true. Driscoll sucks and Hurley needs to keep it more in check - keep the passion, fight the bad calls but stop with the direct, personal insults. According to the rules he probably should have been ejected from the Memphis game, maybe that would have helped like it did a couple years ago to rein it in just enough.

I do find the rules about “inciting the crowd” and “jumping up from the bench” laughable though.

There were certainly some bad calls, and the call in the Memphis at the end was bad, and the mised over the back in the Colorado game was even worse I think it’s fair to say that those two calls if they went the other way, would have produced a different result.
That being said, I find your statistics on the disparity in fouls not convincing
UConnis constantly being beat off the dribble fouls three point shooters and seems to be constantly out of position which leads to excessive fouling
on offense, I might agree with your premise that they aren’t getting calls, but they’re not penetrating enough , no real Post game from the centers
And Karaban and Ball have been pretty much one
Dimensional 3 point shooters
not putting any pressure on the referees to make calls


I have no idea if the referee you speak up has a personal vendetta against Hurley, and that it affects his judgment
If the coaches feel that’s the case, I would think it would be up to the athletic Director to use what should be their considerable influence with the big east to make sure the referee in question is not assigned to their games
obviously they would have no control of the assignments in the tournament games in Maui

I do acknowledge that you’ve been consistent in your feelings about the referees during the 2 years

From where I sit, I thought the last two years there was more one-sided officiating especially when it came to our post players, sonogo and clingan

In case folks didn’t see it, a brawl broke out on the field between Michigan and Ohio State players with police in the middle of it actually using pepper spray on the players. This is the real type of embarrassment to college sports, not Hurley’s “antics”. Don’t hold your breath waiting for any of the players involved to be punished for it.
