Watched the first episode of "Peacemaker" a while ago. Was so underwhelmed I almost didn't return to it. But watched a couple more and it is growing on me.

Watched this on Paramount Plus and is a different show than you guys watched.
6 episodes and included the points you say the other show missed.
I didn't know much about this incident but man it was really messed up. This show portrays the Branch Davidians in a fairly favorable light so I am curious about the accuracy of what was really going on behind the scenes. Many reports talk about child abuse but this show doesn't go into that. It does cover polygamy and the young ages of the wives.

I can't believe this standoff lasted 51 days and required so many federal personnel. The ending is particularly tragic as many women and children died. I'd be interested in other shows or documentaries which cover this.

Basically pre-internet, so the public view of it was far more limited than it would be if it happened today.

I just finished 1883 last night. I thought it was pretty good overall. It moved a little too slow and everyone always seemed so negative, not that I think crossing the plains would be a festival. If it presented anything close to what life was really like, then it was interesting. What annoys me is they sometimes have the actors speak in a manner which cannot be understood. I get it, trying to be real. At least let me hear what they're saying. LaMonica Garrett as Thomas was very good but he was very difficult to hear. The Machine's a slamball player!

1883 was 141 years ago. Only 96 years before the formation of the Big East. Time flies.

I really liked it, personally. We binged it over a week or two, so that may have helped with the pace. Watched it before we started Yellowstone, so to me it really sets the stage for what people sacrificed to get there.

I recently tried re-watching Dexter, which I really enjoyed the first time through. Not so much the second time, and couldn't make it through. The plot through line was basically Dexter lying to everyone about everything all the time and constantly almost being caught. Seemed exhausting the 2nd time.

I'm still with it (haven't watched the most recent episode so no idea what happened with Zahn yet), but I'll agree it's slow moving this season. And having pretty much everything filmed in dark environments doesn't help with trying to not nod off.

Hey, sorry for spamming the forum a bit. LOL. As it happens, I tend to binge the TV and Movie threads here at 4-6 month intervals.

Anyhow, looking for some recommendations for my wife. She's really getting exhausted with the downer nature of TV these days. Everything is death and dystopian future. We've watched and enjoyed a lot of it, but its just starting to wear her down of late. Kind of thing she's looking for is like Ted Lasso and Animal Control. Light hearted and uplifting. We just finished S2 of Shrinking. Hit the mark for the most part for her. I have no problem with darker shows, so I really liked it.

As Shrinking can get a bit raunchy, your wife might want to try "I'm Sorry". Deepster recommended it a couple pages back. I thought it was hilarious, but it does have language and a couple of nsfw parts. It's kind of a Curb Your Enthusiasm with a female lead and no filter. It's on TruTV, which you can sign up for for free and watch past episodes.

Not sure where these are available for streaming, I've found them at some point in the past.

"Bunheads" is about a formerly aspiring triple threat on Broadway who didn't quite make it, found herself in Vegas, then married a guy out of the blue and moved to a small coastal town in California. He dies almost immediately after the wedding, she doesn't get along w/ new mother-in-law, but doesn't really have anywhere else to go. Finds herself teaching ballet classes. Stars Sutton Foster and a talented group of young actresses/dancers.

"Suburgatory" I thought was really funny. Jeremy Sisto and Jane Levy are dad and daughter that move out of NYC to the burbs and find the locals are very alien to them (not in a sci fi kind of way).

"Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23" is kind of the opposite. Dreama Walker moves from somewhere in the midwest after college to NYC and is a fish out of water. Becomes roommates w/ Krysten Ritter, the namesake B, who is just a terrible person. James Van Der Beek has a lot of fun playing a fictionalized version of himself who is besties w/ Ritter. It's on Amazon Prime currently.

"The Mick" is filled w/ a whole cast of terrible people. Some spoiled rich kids whose family has hit hard times, and some hangers on who want to be rich. Kaitlin Olson playing her stock character and mostly otherwise unknown actors. It drags at times but it's also fairly funny. They all totally commit to the roles, lots of physical comedy.

I just figured out most of the way thru "Peacemaker" that it is set in Washington State. I don't know how to feel about that. Was reading more Deep South to me. But whatever. I guess the fictional town of Evergreen should have been a clue, since it is The Evergreen State.


I despised Chukwudi Iwuji in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, but am enjoying him as an actor much more in this.

Robert Patrick as Peacemaker's dad is one of those laughably horrible characters without a single remotely redeeming quality.

American Primeval (Netflix) was pretty good, right up to the last 30 minutes of the season, when the show went completely off the rails. The ending is so stupid and lazy that it ruined the whole show for me.

I liked it. I can forgive the ending. Well worth watching.

On Call is a good watch. 8 30 minute episodes will get you thru it quickly. A good cop show reminiscent of Southland…but more graphic.

I am a fan of The Agency on Paramount+ through episode 3. This is a big budget show, and putting a little more money into a show can make a big difference in the quality of actors, look and feel. Michael Fassbender is excellent in the lead. The plot is a little hard to follow, although I think that is deliberate because it feels like there is going to be a reveal about one of the operations.

Agency just gets better and better through 6 episodes. I am a big fan, although I was a big fan of American Primeval right before that show drove itself off a cliff in the last 30 minutes of its final episode.

The Pitt is also good. It is most of the same creative team as ER from the 90's/00's. Think of it as "ER 2025" with everyone nicer and more respectful of each other than the original ER, and on streaming where the show can get a lot more graphic. I am not going to get hung up on the "each episode is a real time hour* structure of the show, which I feel is an unnecessary gimmick. Noah Wylie is a solid actor, but the rest of the cast are nobodies, which I don't love. There is one character that is pretty important where the actor feels a little weak.
