Kings of Tupelo. Netflix. was pretty good. Real life crime drama that plays like Cohen brother movie. Really bizarre cast of characters centered on a couple of brothers that have a dual Elvis impersonator act. Only 3 episodes so not too much of a time investment.

Just finished “The Day of Jackal”. Thought it was excellent.

The final episode was a rare experience, at least for me. Solid acting, solid script, good action, and yet when it was all over I was "Huh. That was disappointing." Can't explain more than that w/o giving it away.

Overall, it was compelling, and Redmayne was excellent in a role I didn't think he was right for. But he pulled it off, convincingly. Lashana Lynch was also great as the pursuer.

Watched the first two episodes of Beast Games, the real life Squid Games type competition. Well worth checking out if that’s your sort of thing.

I'm now through 3 episodes and I feel like it's missing something. There's no character development or individual "story" worth following. You have people that just met someone 4 days ago, crying hysterically (and phony) when someone gets kicked out. Or people who are just flat out greedy. The challenges are entertaining, but I couldn't care less who wins right now.

Been watching the animated Harley Quinn series. Not one where I can just watch it for hours and hours, but several episodes in a sitting. I think for something based on a comic book character that is irreverent and profane, I prefer it to the Deadpool movies.

Squid games season 2 is not as good as season 1.
I think some (maybe a lot) of that is that we're over the initial shock of the concept. I thought it was OK. I liked some of the new characters. But when I got to the end of Ep7, I was expecting to roll right into Ep8. Was surprised that was it. I guess season 3 is simply the 2nd half of this version of the games.

'The Diplomat'

Started off pretty good.......Kerri Russell really inhabits the role. Turned into a slog episodes 4-5 and is picking up again in #6. Let's see how this ends.

'Penguin' is absolutely fantastic.

I also enjoyed 'Obliterated' on NFLX along with 'The Brothers Sun', which I was disappointed to learn neither were renewed.

Are you referring to Season One or Season Two? I watched the first season when it first came out and remember enjoying it, but I haven't felt motivated to jump into the second season yet and have been wondering if it was worthwhile.

I thought season 2 was actually better.

I am a fan of The Agency on Paramount+ through episode 3. This is a big budget show, and putting a little more money into a show can make a big difference in the quality of actors, look and feel. Michael Fassbender is excellent in the lead. The plot is a little hard to follow, although I think that is deliberate because it feels like there is going to be a reveal about one of the operations.

Sheridan is a mixed bag for me. Sicario, Wind River and Hell or High Water are great films. The rest.... meh

Yellowstone started out really good and now it's just a country music video for idiot rubes with lots of product placement.
1883 was ok
Tulsa King is stupid
1923 is actually kind of good, the first season is basically two shows. Montana and Africa. Looking forward to the second season.
Bass Reeves-I didn't finish it, The first episode is good though.
Lioness is actually really entertaining
1923
Finished the first season and the second season is just coming out. I really like Harrison Ford but I feel like they just inserted him for his name. It is really just like the Indian Jones character plays a Montana Rancher. He's one of those actors who is very popular because of his personality and not really his acting ability. Brandon Sklenar does a great job as Spencer Dutton and the rest of the cast does very well.

Nobody Wants This (Netflix) is a really good romcom easily stretched out over 10 episodes, with several laugh-out-loud moments every episode. I like shows that do not try to do too much and instead rely on actual good writing, and this show pulls it off. It is just a simple maybe love story where I imagine many viewers are not even sure whether they want the couple to get together, which makes it more interesting.

Kristen Bell and Adam Brody are fine as the leads, and the peripheral characters are solid too, but Justine Lupe and Timothy Simons really carry this show as the kind-of-loser sister/brother of the leads. Their characters could both be cartoonish with lesser actors, and then the show would be forgettable, but both of them absolutely crush their roles. One of my biggest complaints about Netflix, and really all the streaming services, is the tendency to only cast a couple of stars and then fill out the cast with nobodies to save money. The secondary and tertiary characters can really matter, and spending a little more money to get better actors for the other key roles makes a big difference.

I bring this up in the Golden Globes thread, but the fact that Lupe and Simons did not get nominated for best supporting actress/actor for their work here shows what a joke the awards shows have become.

Watched the entire season on vacation with my wife & 2 others. Split verdict. I went in with low expectations and it surpassed them. Others thought it sucked. There were a couple episodes where they were introducing the new players that REALLY dragged on, but the beginning & ending of the season were pretty decent. Too bad that one guy got killed in the beginning -- he was a good character.

As for the ending, this was just one of those seasons that got split in half. Wasn't a complete arc.

Separately, I had convinced myself that Severance S2 would never come close to the heights of S1, especially that last episode -- which was literally one of the best 10 episodes of TV I've ever seen. But the reviews are in, and people think it's fantastic.

It's good, not great. Amazing cast, very watchable. But it's just a B, not an A.

The Day of the Jackal was a better watch, even if it's cornier. It's just more exciting.

Watched the first episode of "Peacemaker" a while ago. Was so underwhelmed I almost didn't return to it. But watched a couple more and it is growing on me.

Folks have mentioned the show, Evil, on here before. For those that don't have Paramount, Season 3 of Evil was recently added to Netflix. Season 4 is available on Paramount and I'm guessing will be on Netflix at some point. Good, not great, show that has some decently tense moments.

Got a word of mouth recommendation for Hell on Wheels, which was on AMC but is now available on Prime and Freevee.

Pretty good so far. Definitely a show for grownups in that there are lots of shades of gray.

Interesting storylines, solid cast of characters
