What are you binge watching?

This is perhaps a strange one, but I went through several TVs (starting with The Tick) while exercising in the morning. Some time back, I decided to watch Star Wars - The Bad Batch with my daughter. She said I needed to see some Clone Wars episodes first, so we watched those. I decided to watch all Star Wars - The Clone Wars, and it is my morning exercise (rowing machine) show.

What I've found is that it's really quite good. The writing is excellent. They did an episode dedicated to Akira Kurosawa after he died, that was a variation on The Seven Samurai. There are dozens of examples, some less obvious, but the show is a treasure trove of cultural references. The Cinema Behind Star Wars: Hitchcock, Ridley Scott, and The Fugitive | StarWars.com For Star Wars fans, the portrayal of Annakin is what we wanted in the prequels. He's strong, powerful, charismatic and compelling. You see the impulses that drove him to the dark side but they come very slowly, building in his personality over years. Many other details of the Star Wars universe are filled in by this show.

Ok, we are caught up on Lasso, oldest daughter is moved out of the house again, which means only Mrs. 8893 and me, and our youngest daughter, who is 15 and doesn't watch TV, much less anything with us.

We need a new (to us) show to binge to take our minds off the transition. Any recs? The shows we've successfully binged together include The Wire, Queen's Gambit, The Undoing, Mare of Easttown and Ted Lasso.

Anyone start watching "Nine Perfect Strangers" on Hulu yet?

.
Watched the first episode. Kinda similar to white lotus, but even more bizarre.

Season 4 of Yellowstone coming out November 7th.

Paramount is running a Yellowstone marathon of seasons 1-3 starting Saturday at noon. Good time to record and catch up on evrything leading up to next season

Netflix majorly disappointed me w/ what they did to "Atypical" earlier this year. They almost ruined "Sex Education" as well. Season 3 dropped on Friday. It seems like they didn't even know what made the show good. It lost all its heart and was just all about being outrageous and raunchy. Almost quit on it. The last episode salvaged the season, finally went back to what made it a good series. Not sure why they wasted the rest of the season. The show is definitely at its best when it focuses on the friendship between Otis & Eric and Maeve & Aimee. Surprisingly Michael Groff, the former head of the school, got probably the best character arc during the season. Jemima Kirke was a new character (replaced Groff at the school), they made her a ridiculous caricature, she didn't get any depth until the last episode.

Finally jumped into Lucifer.

He is the more charismatic character on tv.

It’s him and red reddington battling head to head (although nbc is working hard to ruin it by going woke to end it).

This guy is fantastic.

The dialogue is clever and funny at the same time.

The cases are just an excuse to get even more quips out of the star of the show. And that’s totally ok.

Great popcorn tv
I've been watching that while I wait for the new season of Blacklist to be added to Netflix. Lucifer is great, perfect combo of comedy and crime for me

The most recent season of BL starts slow. It gets better, but I found the ending a little…lacking. Sucks because ive loved this show.

I’m cruising through lucifer though becuase he’s so fun.

I've been tempted by this. May need to give it a try.

It’s not brilliant by any means, it’s just really fun tv with great jokes, references and double entendres

It’s also a refreshing take on the devil concept itself

Chapelwaite. Recently completed season 1. Set mostly in Maine in the 1850's and starring Adrian Brody. It isn't clear at first but Brody's family were the founders of Jerusalem's Lot, Maine. Otherwise known as Salem's Lot. So this hails from the Stephen King generated world, and provides deep backstory. The acting is very good. The writing is good. The pace is a bit slow, but intentionally so. It's on EPIX. Definitely worth a watch.

Goliath is an underappreciated series IMHO. It's gotten odder over time, in a sort of Coen brothers way, but it has some great charachters (Patty is one of my favorites), and almost every scene keeps your interest. Seems like a lot of programing has too much filler - you find yourself looking at your phone or something. This one keeps me tuned in.

Xfinity has a sneak peak of HBO going on this weekend. I'm gonna try several original shows--The Nevers, Mare of Easttown, maybe The White Lotus.

I‘m already a subscriber but they just issued a new annual plan that is a decent discount over the monthly plan, so I switched

OK, so I blasted thru Mare of Easttown. Have watched 2 eps of The Nevers, not quite decided on that yet. They don't have the whole series available but I got to see the pilot of Doom Patrol, that looks to have potential.

After watching the first episode of Outer Banks to appease the hearty recommendations from my students, we're totally hooked and I'm shameless to say so. Up to season 1, episode 5 and we're deep in it.

I started Lucifer this week based on this thread. Solid premise, great start, but it's wearing thin on me and I'm S2E7. Getting way too formulaic. At this point I find Ellis to be more compelling when he's on the dramatic side as the one-liners and "of course it's about me" is played out and tired. I'll probably keep with it into S4 to see what earlier posters were alluding to, but I'm not finding it as compelling as others here. But as I don't sub to any premium channels, there's not much else worth binging at the moment.

I'll add that mom is ridiculously hot and along with Amenadiel has the most interesting story arc in S2.

Watched "Midnight Mass," kinda disappointed how it turned out but

Started it last night. So please no spoilers. Through 2 episodes I like it a lot. The writing is brilliant and very believable. The portrayals of religion are constant, and word because they are so accurately done. The acting is very good. Let's see where it goes.

Wont say anything, it's very well done. When you finish it let me know your thoughts.

I just finished it and I really liked the show. However, I didnt love the final episode. It felt a bit too heavy handed in wrapping up every loose end.

I just felt like the big reveal with the vampires was pretty disappointing. The beast reminded me of like a jeepers creepers creature. If they are going the vampire theme wouldnt crosses hurt them as well but the priest wears one? i dont know. it was all bizarre.

I liked this season of Billions. I also am liking the final season of Vikings.

.-.
I might re-watch both seasons of Succession. That show is incredible.

"The Billion Dollar Code" (Netflix) - I enjoyed it. Only four episodes so easy to crush in a day or two. Based on a real story of Google patent infringement vs a German company called Terravision. More entertaining to me than The Social Network was, and none of the leads are really creepy people like Zuckerberg. YMMV.

Wife and I watched all available episodes of American Rust on Showtime in one night. It's a crime drama and a limited series (9 episodes). Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney are excellent. Reminds me a little of Mare of Easttown as it takes place in small town PA.

I got Paramount+ to watch World Cup qualifying. Since I have it, I started binging Star Trek Discovery. Really the only original content that interests me on that service. It starts really slowly, building characters at a pace that is almost boring. But then that starts to pay off and 2/3 the way through season 1 I'm not eager to watch the next episode. Jason Isaacs is really good in a role that fits him well. Sonequa Martin-Green is the real star (and a babe), I didn't immediately recognize her as Sasha from The Walking Dead.
