What are you binge watching?

Watched a couple episodes of "Butterfly" on Amazon. It's an espionage thriller with Daniel Dae Kim and Piper Perabo. Decent so far, pacing is a bit uneven. Apparently it's based off a graphic novel. I would guess the creators of the show are big fans of the Bourne series. The musical score is very similar. The cinematography, movement of main characters in crowded public areas, some other stuff just feels very much like the Bourne films.

Emmys last night. Not a lot of surprises.

This wasn't a surprise, but I just don't get how Hannah Einbinder wins Best Supporting Actress in a comedy. I like the show, but she is not a good actress. Jean Smart didn't really deserve one either for Lead Actress in a comedy, but the options in that category weren't great. Ayo Edebiri is one of those actors/actresses that I put in the "Patrick Swayze" category, where you aren't sure how good they are, but they are so likable that you just kind of root for them. I am surprised that Charlotte Nicdao has never been nominated for Mythic Quest, because she is perfect for that part.

Episode 1.2 of The Studio, "The Oner" deserved its Emmy for Directing. That is an instant classic of an episode, immediately joining the pantheon of best episodes of a comedy in history.

The fact that Parker Posey, Jason Isaacs and Waltons Goggins all got nominated out of White Lotus shows that the Emmy nomination process has jumped the shark. Lee Pace absolutely deserves a nomination for Foundation. I was wondering if anyone in Landman deserves a nomination. Billy Bob doesn't just chew the scenery in Landman, he eats the whole set, but that show could also completely go off the rails if that character was in the hands of a lesser actor.

Andor should have won for best Drama Series. The Pitt was good, but a little formulaic. Andor was truly original.

I can't believe that no one got nominated out of Three Women. Starz has zero pull.

Cristin Milioti is one of my favorite actresses, although I didn't see the Penguin so I don't know if she was good or not in it.

She was very good in The Penguin, the show was not. I got through episode 4 or 5 a few months ago and still haven't finished it. It's not bad, just not super compelling either

We tuned in the show for a bit, my dad is a big fan of the host. About the time Jennifer Coolidge got on stage as a presenter and wouldn't stop talking, we were done. Nate did his spiel about the 45 second time limit for acceptance speeches, but apparently he really needed to put a time limit on the presenters.

I thought Tramell Tillman for best supporting actor was well-deserved. He was great as Millchik in Severance.

I am not engaging in political debate here. Every video I watch makes me want to explore the topics further. That in and of itself is valuable. I'd be happy to debate elsewhere. But yes, I get the point, you have obviously fallen into the same trap as many posters: you read a short blurb and completely miss the point. One word of advice. Watch full videos because yes, Charlie said the Civil Rights Act was a mistake. Now go back to the video so you can understand exactly what he said and his reasoning for saying it.
We’re going to get shut down here shortly by the mods. But I have watched Kirk’s videos. He uses a debate technique of asking a question to a question to steer all conversations back to his pre-determined argument, which makes him seem really intelligent. While his death at the hands of a deeply troubled young man was a terrible thing, Kirk’s devisive remarks through the years do little to unite our country. Given his comments about gun deaths and the 2nd amendment, his own tragic death is sadly ironic.

but I'm hopeful people will tune out the noise and start seeing the humanity in each other.
Agreed, this divisive rhetoric needs to go. How these people with such contempt for others get large platforms is beyond me. Terrible things happen. We need to get back to where we were 10 years ago before we allowed such vitriol on the national stage. Its tearing our country apart.

Let's get back to TV shows before we get a hundred page thread shut down.

I'm very excited for the new season of Slow Horses, September 24th.
House of Guinness on Netflix looks promising. 9/25
The Savant on Apple+ looks like it could be good.

Sad that his death over shadowed another school shooting which seems to happen every week at this point. We've become so numb to it that it barely creates outrage.

With all respect, I love a good jag and I'm pretty sure that I'm even responsible for a few, but this is a thread about Binge watching TV shows. I certainly do not purport to be a mod or know any better or worse, but debating ideologies (even if tangential) of and/or about certain recent high-profile events, considering the emotional instability and highly combustible atmosphere that it has left in its wake, in this arena is in poor taste. IMH(umble)O.

BTW, I'm still stuck on Succession and Cobra Kai. I'd like to finish Billions as well, but I don't have access to Showtime on a consistent basis.

I spent half an hour trying to clean up this goshdarn threat. Some of you don't understand no politics and five of you have been banned. I don't wanna have to do anymore.

And anyone else who wants to post politics will be banned for even longer.

NO, POLITICS.

Succession. It isn't even a question. The last season of Billions is pretty good, so you can skip ahead. There is also enough exposition in the first episode or two that you can figure out who everyone is and what they are up to. It is like the Billions producers knew people had checked out for a few seasons.

Only one more episode of Alien Earth. This is the best showing going right now I think.

Two nice touches about this show. The opening which provides a hint of what is to come and the choice of music at the end. This week it was Queens of the Stone Age, “Song For the Dead”.

I am going to have to rewatch the whole series given what is going on with the eyeball alien.

I'm still eh about it. I thought the episode with the backstory of Morrow and the ship that crashed was easily the best but also closest to the original plot of the franchise. Lot of unlikeable characters but I do really like Kirsch as well. The eye thing is def interesting

It’s a pretty massive hit.

I only have 1 episode of "Butterfly" left. It's okay, could've been better.

edit--um...the end of the last episode was a doozy

Watched the first two episodes of Task on HBO. Pretty good so far. Mark Ruffalo plays a somewhat troubled FBI agent investigating a gang that is ripping off a drug dealing MC gang.

Way too depressing. It was a rough watch through two episodes.

I'm still catching up. I kept thinking Wendy (Sydney Chandler) was attractive despite the horrific haircut. Had no idea what she'd been in and I find she played Chrissie Hynde in Pistol about the Sex Pistols (she looked way better in that show than Chrissie ever did).

Olyphant is always so good. It's a well done show, a lot of it is subtle and the pacing is slow. I do find it's easy to become distracted and miss something.

The problem with the show is that there is nobody to really root for. Actually, I think I am rooting for the eyeball.
