Westbrook to Uconn [merged thread]

Former Tennessee guard Evina Westbrook to join UConn women’s basketball team

"Westbrook averaged 14.9 points to tie for the highest average on the team last season, while dishing out 5.3 assists. She also became the first Tennessee player since Candace Parker to score 20 points or more in four straight games. She came to Tennessee as the No. 2 prospect in her recruiting class, and was previously linked to the Huskies as a potential recruit. "

It's hard to argue with the old phrase that you can never have too much talent, but how many guards of this quality can you really use? Is she a pure 1/2 or can she play the 3. Next year, not much of a problem with CD, CW and EW, but the following year there is a logjam with CW, EW, NM and PB unless one of them can play some minutes at the 3.
Congrats. Only took 24 posts. Smh.

Geno to the applause: Thank you...thank you... thank you very much. But I did tell you I had this handled.

While everyone in the WBB community thought we were declining when it came to recruiting Geno had a master plan in plan in place. I am so excited about this. With the new transfer rules in place why wouldn’t she qualify for immediate eligibility.

What is the reaction on VN boards?
It's pretty mixed. Some are surprisingly gracious, others not so much.

What new transfer rules would apply to her situation?

Don't forget Ania Makurat this fall. Not at all clear to say the least that Evina Walker can play this year.
Come on now. Get her last name right. UConn does not have an Evina Walker.

Could someone give me a quick and dirty, I avoid anything UT. Is she eligible this season? Is she good enough to compete for a starting job? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I just read Cat's post above

@Hayven mentioned in the Transfer thread last month....... how petty it would be to transfer from TN to UConn.... I replied if that happened... I'd might have to take that five hour road trip up to Knoxville in the 2020-21 matchup. Id be up in Thomas-Boling like

Good gosh.... I love saucy transfers like this  with a few exceptions of course

Maybe. Yes. Needs a waiver from NCAA to play, but she will push for a starting position if she plays.

The NCAA made three (relatively) good decisions on transfers Read #2 New coach at school that’s not due player fault. This would also put pressure on Lady Vols to assist with immediate eligibly because lately schools who haven’t assisted with issues like Westbrook has been blasted by the media.
That #2 scenario is much narrower than you're thinking. It's about what happens when a coach leaves or is fired AFTER an incoming player has already enrolled in summer school. Westbrook wasn't an incoming player at Tennessee, and even if she were, she wasn't enrolled in summer school there.

Imagine if Horston had already enrolled in summer school in Knoxville before Holly was fired. That's when the new rule could be invoked.

I would be surprised if she is granted a waiver but I hope to be proven wrong. Unlike an ND transfer, she didn’t play for her new coach for a year, then decide to transfer. The same player got to immediately play.
