What top 20 kids did we turn down? I think Hurley actually believes Ross and the other sophomores are ultra talented, he's said it over and over. Hurley had his pick of who he wanted in the portal and he went with Reed who I am very happy with. He also went with Mahaney who had a pretty big rep, it obviously hasn't worked out but that seems to be an evaluation problem and a fit problem. If Hurley picked Enoch Cheeks off of Robert Morris over Aidan Mahaney people would've said Hurley lost his mind. If Hurley picked Nate Santos off of Dayton and told Jaylin to find a new program people would've said Hurley lost his mind. Cheeks and Santos crushed us last night and they've both been way better than our transfer guard and our sophomores.
Do you really believe everything DH says to the media? Has Ross shown anything that looks like an NBA first rounder? Way too literal with what he says as he throws superlatives out loosely and likely for other reasons. DH has been buying his own #%* a bit off the B2B high.

As someone said he gambled on this soph class and it doesn’t appear to be paying off. Not saying he turned down anyone, it’s that he’s going to want to maintain brand to attract that quality going forward. I’m glad he killed it this past cycle with the 4 coming in, just need to sustain that level of attraction as all the top kids are getting gobbled up by the P4. Cinci just picked up a top 20 kid. Right now we’re selling B2B, a staff that’s been raved about as being offensive genius to the burger crew. We are competing exclusively with the P4 for that type of player, the BE clearly ain’t selling them. GenZ a different animal.

I love your optimism and clearly I’m a cynic, but a nice one I promise :).

You’re beyond a cynic.
If you do not think Hurley believes in the players and team.
No one’s ever said Ross was a 1st round pick. Hurley just said a switch had been flipped!

Ross was the only player invited to an NBA camp. More people than just Hurley seem to think so.

Another one who misses the point. So this year’s team is better off without junior Clingan and soph Castle. Heck, throw in senior Hawkins. I know why these guys are leaving, I would too. But I guess I’m a bird in the hand type when the bird is hard to better. The whole premise that we won’t get superior talent if they can’t see others who came before them go pro very fast is just speculation. It supposes McNeeley doesn’t come if he doesn’t see Castle leave after a year or Clingan, Hawkins and Bouknight leave after two. Did he say that, or did he see us winning and his mind well coached. You and I don’t know. Are next year’s recruits coming because they see our early departures or they see us winning. All is know is we have an impatient fan base.

I get your point, you think attracting one and dones is bad for our program. It's a bad take.

I did not say that at all. I say we are better off for wins if great players don’t leave early. I know you don’t get the different slant. Just don’t bitch about this year. If a one and done doesn’t make us better the one year they are here, explain why that makes you happy.

It is what it is no one is bitching about that, I see that you are. Getting great players to stay 4 years just isn't realistic we're not in the 70s anymore. On all our title teams we had guys leave early. Great programs find viable replacements as best as they can, it doesn't guarantee success. Would you rather get guys who will be here 4 years and not play in the NBA well ok then we're not winning a national championship, btw we still have 4 year guys here.

Aside from the offense - which is awful - and the defense - which is worse - and the roster construction - which is abysmal - I think we’re doing pretty well.

I am kind of puzzled as to which team Danny Hurley was watching when he got offended that we were not the preseason #1. The team he’s brought to Hawaii was the eighth-best team there and currently looks like an NIT hopeful.

What a debacle. Maybe more complaints about not getting calls at the post-game presser will fix things.
Get over it! R u a fan or fair weather fan...in Dan we trust..Right now we're not real good but 2 games we could have won and we lost 4 starters. Even if we had 4 4 or 5 stars come in we need to jell..that takes time..I'll be happy to get 20 wins and ncaa birth..on top of it mckneely was hurting and probably should have sat yesterday..I'll be in my seats to watch this team get better

Reminder to self, never post immediately after a game. Some of the takes on here are god awful.
My favorite was someone in the chat saying we need to force Reed, Ball, Stewart, Ross, and Mahaney out for
next year and bring in a bunch of transfer with our incoming class.

Maybe, but Castle is tasked with defending SGA, Steph Curry, etc on a nightly basis. The 23 championship team was good enough with Sanogo as starting center. But, it’s awful hard to win without a solid point guard, and Castle’s defense is elite. The ability to go get a bucket in crunch time is missed.

In time, we will recognize that Castle was also a generational player. If you watch his NBA games, he is going to be a superstar.
I wasn’t trying to diss Steph Castle, but DC is a unicorn. And as much as I loved Adama, having DC to sub in for him was huge. It was probably the best 1-2 at the 5 since Bill Walton and Swen Nater at UCLA.

Donovan Clingan might’ve saved his reputation. Kind of crazy to think he took all the credit and thought his offense was the reason for all his success.
Agreed
It wasn't just DC but Cam brought a special talent that I am quite certain even DH didn't know what he had until 3-4 games in. Castle was a gem in the rough. But these guys with TN were ballers, something I don't see in this team with the exception of Nowell and at some times both HD and Liam. AK could be but that switch has to be turned on this season.
Athletes are great but if they don't have game- they need to try track and field.
The incoming 2025-2026 class is promising for sure but those kids better have that edge that successful players possess

To have more talent than each opponent and lose each is not a good look for the players or coaches. Time for some soul searching for these guys. The coaches made the choices on these players and this roster. They had the pick of the litter on whomever they wanted to bring in. Well, they need to figure out how to make it work or they will have crazy egg on there face. Just some ugly basketball.
Talent is a component but all the talent in the world lays wasted if you aren't a gamer and want to go out there and flat out ball 100% of the time.

But then, it wouldn’t be the boneyard.

I like it when people blurt things out, especially after a few bourbons and a loss.
Kinda like getting drunk at the Christmas party and telling the boss what you really think of him …. but in the safety of the yard.
