Week of 1/15/24 Other Games

If we do face Kentucky in March double bigs is in play, playing Johnson and Clingan together isn’t the same as Clingan and Sanogo last year, Johnson isn’t a true big and he can defend the perimeter it’s all he would have to do.

Well see what happens a long ways away till March.

This season has been really fun. Playing on the road is super hard and no ranked team is safe

#1 UConn only wins by 1 at Nova
#3 Kansas loses at WEST VIRGINIA
#7 Duke loses to Pitt
#9 Baylor loses at Texas
#12 Arizona was down 17 to UCLA before making a comeback
#17 Marquette only wins by 1 at SJU
#18 Creighton needs 3OT to win at Seton Hall

I had to apologize profusely to my wife and teenage daughter for my colorful language when that world class doofus for Pitt fouled Duke on that desperation three up four with four seconds to go. If they hadn’t pulled that game out, that kid would have needed police protection from Capel and his teammates.

So Cal now has four seven footers-including this college Jokic- along with the rest of his standard pool of ridiculous talent? Unfarkingbelievable. Even he can’t mess up coaching that.

They really "won" by 4. The game wasn't as tight as the final score suggests. Yes Nova had a lead a couple times, but it felt like UConn always had control of the game, I was never very concerned.

I see this as a good omen. We had one point wins under identical circumstances (prayer three at the buzzer when we were up four) in the 2004 national semifinal win against Duke and again in the 2011 national semifinal win against Kentucky. I believe it signifies an imminent national title on the horizon.

Very true but if I said that then my post would look worse :)

Big game for Quinnipiac today as the 13-4 Bobcats (5-1 in MAAC play), host the heating up Iona Gaels.

Richie Springs has had an on-and-off season at Quinnipiac, but he's fresh off his best game since the second week of the season.

Obviously, Wofford transfer Amarri Tice has been amazing, so it makes sense why Springs playing time has been inconsistent as QU's starting center Paul Otieno is one of the best defensive players in the MAAC.

Dude is skilled(game clips are in the next slides), surprised he even came over to play in college

I can't stand Calipari, but even before the addition of Ivisic, this is the most talented Kentucky team probably since their Final Four squad.

They're not just inexperienced 5-star athletes like the last handful of seasons. This team is more versatile and rank within the top-4 nationally in both Effective FG% and Turnover Rate prevention. That means there's a level of savvy and skill we haven't seen in Lexington in a long time.

Case in point, Antonio Reeves (19.5 ppg) and Tre Mitchell (13.5 ppg) are both in their fifth-year of college ball and shoot the ball with ease while freshmen Rob Dillingham and Reed Shepherd are excellent shooters.

Kentucky is usually one of my favorite fades when when I build my bracket, but at this rate, Kentucky has a wicked high ceiling since Ivisic makes this team ten-deep when everyone is healthy.

The offense flows beautifully, but they do have concerns on defense.

Tulane on a quick run early in the second half. Battling with Memphis, currently up 5
Court storm in New Orleans, Tulane wins!

Memphis came into the week ranked #10 but then lost to 2 bad teams (under 100 Kenpom for USF and Tulane). May be extreme, but I wonder if they stay in the top 25 tomorrow

The puke folks are in an uproar. Perhaps KEA's table jumping left a lasting impression on the Pitt program

He stole that from El Amin.

We're starting to see some separation in the rankings here.

UConn and Purdue

Houston, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, Tennessee

Arizona, Auburn, Wisconsin, Illinois

It would take a significant collapse for us to fall out of the top 2 seed lines.

There was a big gap between their AP ranking and their analytic ratings. Those games were upsets either way, but Memphis was certainly overrated. There was a good KenPom article about them recently.

Super interesting. Seems Pomeroy was right with them lol

Literally 4 days ago and they lose to two sub-100 KP teams in those 4 days. That's calling your shot if I've ever seen it.

How about Wichita st . I remember that first year they joined the aac they were top 10 or 5. Now they are on life support.

Once Marshall lost his mind they’ve been toast

On the Pitt hoops paid board, there's a thread celebrating Blake El-Amin.

They remember.
