Week 5 preview (Dec. 6-12)

NC State cruised past Pitt 89-54. Looks like they got a ton of bench scoring, starters must not have played a whole lot.

Oregon State getting outplayed by Monmouth. Very unimpressive performance by the Beavers thus far. Won't win many PAC-12 games if they continue on this trend.

OSU wins 72-58. A team they should've buried by around 40. Really, really, really unimpressed.

Marathon game, Denver goes 4 OT to beat Butler, Bulldogs were seeking their first win of the season.

.-.
Missouri St. all over Missouri 79-51. Didn't Mizzou just almost beat Baylor?

They needed 4OT to score 100 points. I’m not sure what’s going on with the Pios this year, but they just haven’t made strides from last year IMO as they really should be competitive with teams like Wyoming, Air Force, Colorado State etc.

Utah put up 100 for the third time, they're fun to watch. Missing 2 starters and a rotation player off the bench, didn't seem to matter at all. Another big game for Fr. Jenna Johnson.

NC State's Elissa Cunane made her 429th FT against Pitt and now holds the school record for most made FT in a career. The old record was 428 by Miah Spencer.

.-.
Nicholls will try once again to win its first game of the season, hosting 1-5 South Alabama.

Your blowout of Pitt is impressive. No, Pitt is not a very good team, but they aren’t garbage either. Any 35 pt blowout of a P-5 conference foe has to make others turn their heads.

I was surprised by the margin of victory, as Pitt seemed much improved from previous season. NC State came out with guns blazing. Ball movement was crisp...the ladies were definitely intent on 1) finding the best available shot and 2) assuring they dominated the boards. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of that win Friday night was that the starters sat on the bench for most of the second half. The bench players all contributed, and the lead actually expanded...getting as large as 42 points at one time.

Perhaps, NC State's best performance of the season. It really was a thing of beauty to watch -- as long as you weren't a Pitt fan.

No, not "any blowout of a P-5 conference foe". What is it with this fetish people have for the "P-5"? Virginia is a dumpster fire of a team and anything less than a huge blowout would make me question whether it's an elite team that beat them. Yes, Pitt is better than previous years and NC State is playing fantastic ... but let's not over-extrapolate.

After laying 108 points on Grand Canyon, the Lady Jacks seem ready for the upcoming
Saturday afternoon match up with Cal Baptist at 2pm MST at the Rolle Activity Center.

If NAU is on their game this should be a real fun contest. Two outstanding point guards as well as some very accomplished three point shooters.

Last night Regan Schenck dished out 14 assists and was perfect from three land.

In fact the Jacks were amazing from three land Nina Radford was in a zone and as well as Lauren Orndoff scoring 22 and 25 points respectively in unde27 minutes of play.

As a team the Jacks hit 12 of 22 3-pointers and had an eye popping 31 assists.

3 hours to tip off.

Jack's are enjoying home cooking riding a three game steak scoring 83, 81 and 108 in their last three games.

The Lancers are coming off a one point loss at home to UCSD

I fully expect that the Rolle Activity Center will be the dinkiest arena the Lancers play in this year. It very much reminds me of the Middle School gym that my oldest son wrestled in back in the 1980s. Hard to believe that coach Payne can recruit anyone based on the facilities.

And any event this is going to be a great matchup I certainly hope that the Lady Jack's shooting touch continues.

In addition to the matchup between two fabulous point guards Schrenk and Olaeta these two these two teams are excellent from beyond the arc.

In their loss to UCSD the Lancers had 3 double doubles led by Harper.

You misquote my “any 35 point blow out of a P-5 conference foe is impressive.” Your point about the UVAs of the world is noted.

Perhaps the most intense rivalry in all of HBCU land... although they are no longer in the same conference... the fire is still there... NCCU (Central) visits Greensboro to take on the Aggies of NC A&T at 2pm on ESPN+ . Not technically a Land Grant vs Flagship battle... but its very close to that kinda rivalry.

South Alabama beats Nicholls, 73-63. The Lady Colonels are 0-7 now.

In a hard fought battle... My Aggies get a come from behind victory over the hated Eagles from NCCU 60-55. The Aggies improve to 2-6... the Eagles remain winless at 0-8. In other Big South Action... the Running Bulldogs of Garner Webb lose a high scoring affair 121-105 to Georgia Southern. The score was 58-46 at the half... 92-72 after 3.

Good luck til March. Hope you hold your # 2 ranking until we meet again.

They will take a few losses in the ACC... losing at least once to a Triangle Neighbor.

MONSTER game for Ayoka Lee, 38 pts/14 reb/6 blocks. Kansas St. edged South Dakota St. 79-73. SDSU fell to 3-7, might've overscheduled. Won't be getting an at large bid, have to get the auto bid from their conference to go Dancing.

.-.
On the front page of HerHoopStats they have a prediction models for games... They give SC a 89.1% Chance of beating MD...with a margin of 16.2 points. They give Louisville a 80% chance of beating KY with a margin of 10 points.

For last past games.. they gave UCONN a 90% chance of beating ND with a margin of 16.2 and gave SC a 96.7% chance of beating Kansas State with a margin of 23.1 Surprisingly to some... they gave Duke a 70% chance of beating Iowa with a margin of 7 points.

Your condescending remarks about overscheduling lack the context that SDSU was counting on having Myah Selland back by this point.

Really wasn't mean to be condescending. Kudos to schools that schedule tough, but maybe it was a little too tough. Even if they had had Selland available.

I would just gently add that I don't consider it "overscheduling" just because they've lost a bunch of games. They scheduled very appropriately for a team hoping to build a potential at-large resume. It's just that obviously they're not an at-large-caliber kind of team, at least not without Selland (who did play today but is not 100%), but it doesn't mean they were wrong to order up the potential at-large resume schedule.

Playing a softer schedule would've given them more wins maybe, but it wouldn't have done anything to help them get an at-large bid.

Cal cruised against McNeese. Big contributions off the bench by Onyiah and Daniels w/ 16 and 15, combined 13-20 shooting. Curry w/ another 20 point game.

Cal is kinda like Utah, neither have beaten anybody good, but they sure have beaten the stuffing out of some of their lesser opponents.
