Week 2 games (Nov. 30 – Dec. 6)

Just scanning the box scores really fast:

I'm mildly surprised that Buffalo dropped one against VCU despite 27 points and 9 rebounds from Dyashia Fair. She didn't get much help on a night that Buffalo shot 27% as a team in dropping 61-55 as they got outscored 21-12 in the 4th.

James Madison unsurprisingly leads Virginia in the 4th 65-58. Is this Tina Thompson's last year if she doesn't show any improvement?

Kansas State leads Kentucky in the 3rd Quarter. Keep this one on upset watch for now. Rhyne Howard MIA shooting 1-8.

Penn State needed a buzzer beater to beat.......Rhode Island 70-69. Yikes.

No surprise as Michigan managed to beat Notre Dame. Solid win for the Wolverines. You have to wonder how KBA and her Wolverines will do this year.

Kentucky seems to be sneaking away out of Manhattan with the win against Kansas State as they build a 56-49 lead with under 3 to go.

Virginia shot over 50% against James Madison, but it looks like they got outrebounded badly which contributed to a narrow 71-67 loss for the Cavaliers.

Brunelle's first game back after an injury. She fouled out in 17 minutes, 2-6 from the floor, all three point attempts.

No Virginia, there is no Santa Claus.

Hot take: Dre'una Edwards is Kentucky's best player this year.

I don't think it's been particularly close so far. I do wonder how Utah would've done had Edwards stayed there, but such is life.

Howard may take slightly longer to settle in this year, but let's not forget that this was her first game while Edwards has had a minute to settle in.

Been excited to watch her play for a while, she’s really really good. Edwards has it all! Her and chasity Patterson look very good so far. Benton (transfer from auburn) also will give some quality minutes off the bench. They have the talent, I just question if the coaching and guidance can get them there....

a lot of top players have had rough starts so far.

Edwards was great for Utah two years ago, Pac-12 FOY in fact, but somehow totally under the radar nationally because, well, no one makes an effort to watch the Pac-12 basically. When she announced her intent to transfer, it was just a massive blow to that program, which was already losing Megan Huff to graduation.

Kentucky was overrated all year last year and they're overrated again, imo, at least at this stage. Kansas State struggled to put away Southern in their previous game and yet they led for most of this game until they flatlined in the final 5+ minutes (literally, went scoreless). Much was expected of Ayoka Lee but she has not been good at all so far.

I'm looking forward to the Kentucky-Indiana matchup this weekend.

Is that game at Indiana? If so I won't be on Sling Orange so I won't be able to see it.

It's at Kentucky, on Sunday at 4p ET. The game will be on ESPNU, which is available on Sling's "Sports Extra" package for an extra $10.

I think the key for Kentucky this season is the relationship between R Howard and A Edwards/C Patterson. Edwards is strong but also looks light on her feet. Patterson is looking more and more comfortable running the team. R Howard is a volume shooter. I’m curious as to how she needs to adjust her role for the betterment of the team and how any adjustments impact her ability to produce.

Stanford playing Washington on Sunday and Wazzu on Tuesday, both in Vegas. That’s a great setup for them.
They had to find someplace else to play. It was either that or cancel, and I guess Vegas is as good a substitute locale as any.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Pac-12 tipoff here in a few minutes with the CU-UO game.

Just a heads-up for mid-major fans that Gonzaga is playing at South Dakota State Sunday at 3 ET. It appears that it will be available as a stream from the SDSU web site.

These are two of the best mid-majors this year, should be a close and well-played game.

Thanks for pointing this out; it was an egregious omission from my list. (I'll use the excuse that all those 2pm games wore me out.)

This will be a highly significant game for both teams and should be very entertaining to watch (IMO one of the 3 most appealing matchups of a chock-full slate of Sunday games). But unfortunately it appears that the stream requires a subscription ($11 per month) or a one-day pass ($7): https://gojacks.com/watch/purchase.aspx#register

This will be Gonzaga's last game of any significance out of conference. The Jackrabbits, by contrast, have the following schedule after this game: at Kansas State, at Northern Iowa, vs. Drake, at Missouri State. Then after a sojourn to Montana State, they'll play Northern Iowa a second time just before Christmas. Quite the decent little schedule that Aaron Johnston has put together.

Xavier WBB announced a cancellation in their game against Creighton less than an hour before tip-off:

Damn! I didn't notice where most of the games say free, this one has a lock. I hope it's available free later. The Summit games were almost all available on ESPN3 last year.

I was really impressed when I saw the Jackrabbits' schedule. All those P5 games plus the Zags, Drake, Mizzou State. . .
