Some musings from a couple of games I watched tonight.
UCLA vs UNC: really competitive game, especially for about 2 and a half quarters. I really think both sides should be happy. Unc guards started out so well. Aarnisalo, Nivar, Kelly all create for themselves so well, and gave UCLA's guards problems. I thought Cierra Toomey played well in spots. Definitely most comfortable shooting on the outside. I really don't know where else she feels comfortable on the offensive end except behind the arc. I'm not sure if it just is what it is. She played well defensively as well. For UCLA, I just think they are so talented. Betts is so good, I thought Toomey played her well and she still ended up with 20 10 and 7, shooting over 50 percent from the field. Kneepkens didn't get going and Leger Walker was relatively quiet but it didn't matter. Still won by nearly 20, and had 4 players in double figures. Kiki Rice was really good after a slow start. And Angela dugalic is an Olympian and pro. I don't mind 5th or 6th years but dugalic is like almost a professional role player in college. I love her game but idk, she's like a case study that's a bit different, cuz she's almost playing a similar role on the same team she was on last season. But she still has barely played 100 games and a lot of those she was injured or coming off of injury..
Maryland vs Townsend - Maryland is an interesting team. It was good to see Smikle back. I think she had 15 shots in 15 minutes but she looked like herself honestly. Garzon still trying to fit in a bit but their freshman guards are pretty fun to watch. I think they are deeper than I thought but conversely I'm a bit worried their transfers won't be as impactful as I thought, like all conference players.
Miami vs Florida Atlantic - kinda random but I saw Gal Raviv this summer and became a big fan. She's struggling a little bit, but I like their team. I think it's an age old question, when ur a guard who can create ur own shot, when do I be aggressive. I also think this is particularly challenging if ur not a fast pace or quick guard. Honestly Raviv and Aarnisalo remind me of each other. The ball will be in their hands. I think they both want to win but how will they make their teammates better. At half time Raviv had 10 shots, finished with 12.
