Chicago St. and North Carolina Central both have non conference wins very early in the season. What is happening?

edit--NCCU's win came at the expense of UNC Asheville, now I'm curious where they are on @triaddukefan 's Top 25 favorite teams from the state of North Carolina list

Man ... I gotta update my NC rankings... 19 Division One schools .. Duke is #1, Chapel Hill isn't ranked . UNC-A was probably around #7.... But you just cannot lose to Central 😕. A bit of history, NC A&T and NCCU are blood rivals..... The HBCU version of Chapel Hill and NC State. So obviously NCCU is way down on the list of teams I pull for ... They gotta be like 15th-17th

Molly Miller takes her Sun Devils to the beach in SoCal and take care of USD.

With Poa still nursing a wrist injury freshman Williams has 11 assists as the trademark Miller defense holds USD to 47 points. The Devil's win all four quarters and held USD 8 points in the final frame.

The Sun Devils have increased their scoring by 6 points game to game 67 to 73 to 79 points.

Up the coast to take on former Lumberjack coach Loree Payne and her Broncos in Santa Clara on Sunday. The 2-1 Broncos are actually a slight favorite in the game which is kind of a head scratcher.

I'm looking forward to seeing how former Lumberjack Sophie Clancy performs against the Miller defense.

Seriously, what's with Oklahoma playing every other day this week? This kind of scheduling doesn't sit well with me. Like how much recovery time are these players getting?

Geno would say Much ado about nothing.

Sorry, but I don't get the reference.

I get some may think it's no big deal because they're young, but from what I've learned from coaching clinics, bodies need time to recover. We talk about injuries and how frequently they are happening. I believe scheduling some times comes into play in this case.

Geno has said something along the lines of "they're 20 and it's basketball. it's not like they're fighting in a war." He also thinks practices should be more intense than games.

And 3 of the 4 OU games are Kansas City, North Alabama, and W Carolina. No one should be playing anywhere close to 40 mins

My question would be when Geno said this as the amount of playing time these kids have before entering college is very different than even 5 - 10 years ago.

Tuned in for the Georgetown v George Mason game just to see how Brianna Scott was playing after missing last season due, I think, to her ACL injury she got in the 2023-24 Big East Tournament. She isn't available tonight and if they announced why at the beginning of the game, I missed it.
She is the daughter of Christy Williams-Scott who was the analyst for our game on Wednesday against Loyola.
The game itself is pretty ho-hum with very little excitement from either team. It's currently 16-8, Georgetown at the 7 minute mark of the 2nd quarter.
I can't watch much longer 😫

Hidalgo had 16 steals?! Can that really be real? Also 44 points.
If anyone is aware of any wcbb player ever having a more impressive stat sheet in a game I’d love to know about it. Kudos to her.

Uh oh. A certain member, often confused with Pope Francis, is likely not happy that his team is down double digits to WV late in the 3rd.

I’m very confused. They’re saying that WV only has 5 players but the box score shows 11 have played. Did 6 players get ejected ?

.-.
That would be correct. Five players were ejected to coming onto the floor from the bench.
Ah just found it on twitter — 5 WV bench plus 1wv/1duke who had the scuffle .

Duke has got a LOT of probs. The anemic offense in the first game was the canary. This confirms it.

WV is on the verge of a player fouling out and having to play with 4 so the BDs may be able to comeback and win, but this is not a good sign.

Fournier couldn’t throw the ball into the ocean. She has missed multiple point blank shots.

3-15 from 3, 14-32 from 2
Bad execution, very bad shot selection
23 TOs
Went to pressure defense way too late

Very very disappointed in the BDs. They seem to have regressed mightily from last year.

.-.
I’d drop the BDs out of the top 25 based on what I saw.

With upcoming games against SC and LSU, Duke could be 4-4 in a few weeks.

They’ll lose to SC but beat LSU. Duke prob won’t finish top 3 in ACC in current form

Can anyone who was once affiliated with Tennessee teach actual offense?

BTW, Joe Vasziiy was one of the refs. WVU had 6 players ejected and only 5 left Good job by the Mountaineers to win under those bizarre circumstances.

Fournier’s got great physical tools but below average touch around the rim. Definitely a player who relied on her athleticism prior to college (as many do).

Duke is in trouble. Okananwa was pretty clearly their best player. Nothing wrong with a few early losses, but if you’re a team with Final Four aspirations, are Baylor and West Virginia teams you should lose to?

It doesn't matter who the ref was. TV got an excellent view of the WV bench emptying onto the court.

The scuffle was on both the players. The Duke player taunted, the WV player took exception, the Duke player was slightly physical, the WV player popped her and, well, no one else from Duke was involved. Nor the other WV players on the court. The bench players didn't get in a fight, they just ran onto the court.

Some musings from a couple of games I watched tonight.
UCLA vs UNC: really competitive game, especially for about 2 and a half quarters. I really think both sides should be happy. Unc guards started out so well. Aarnisalo, Nivar, Kelly all create for themselves so well, and gave UCLA's guards problems. I thought Cierra Toomey played well in spots. Definitely most comfortable shooting on the outside. I really don't know where else she feels comfortable on the offensive end except behind the arc. I'm not sure if it just is what it is. She played well defensively as well. For UCLA, I just think they are so talented. Betts is so good, I thought Toomey played her well and she still ended up with 20 10 and 7, shooting over 50 percent from the field. Kneepkens didn't get going and Leger Walker was relatively quiet but it didn't matter. Still won by nearly 20, and had 4 players in double figures. Kiki Rice was really good after a slow start. And Angela dugalic is an Olympian and pro. I don't mind 5th or 6th years but dugalic is like almost a professional role player in college. I love her game but idk, she's like a case study that's a bit different, cuz she's almost playing a similar role on the same team she was on last season. But she still has barely played 100 games and a lot of those she was injured or coming off of injury..
Maryland vs Townsend - Maryland is an interesting team. It was good to see Smikle back. I think she had 15 shots in 15 minutes but she looked like herself honestly. Garzon still trying to fit in a bit but their freshman guards are pretty fun to watch. I think they are deeper than I thought but conversely I'm a bit worried their transfers won't be as impactful as I thought, like all conference players.
Miami vs Florida Atlantic - kinda random but I saw Gal Raviv this summer and became a big fan. She's struggling a little bit, but I like their team. I think it's an age old question, when ur a guard who can create ur own shot, when do I be aggressive. I also think this is particularly challenging if ur not a fast pace or quick guard. Honestly Raviv and Aarnisalo remind me of each other. The ball will be in their hands. I think they both want to win but how will they make their teammates better. At half time Raviv had 10 shots, finished with 12.
I think Raviv will be fine. She's definitely improving. After playing in the Euro-basket championship she hasn't had a lot of practice time yet learning her teammates play and learning a new system. She will be the player they build around going forward so she will progress by leaps and bounds once things fall in to place. Miami's freshmen class also looking pretty good. Next few games should test them as they play neutral site games against Davidson, IOWA, GW, and OKLA.ST. followed by a home game against KY.

Illinois loses on the road to Oregon State. Stanford ekes out a victory at WSU. Baylor had to wake up late in the fourth quarter to get past UNLV. And we all know what happened with Duke at WV. This is going to be an interesting, fun, and somewhat unpredictable year.

LOTS of good games on the docket tomorrow. ND at MICH, WASH at UTAH, FAIRFIELD at NC (would not surprise me if Fairfield wins), SC at USC, plus some other interesting match-ups.

I still think UNC and Iowa (upcoming) are a bridge too far for Fairfield. Their overall size and athleticism are too disruptive. Richmond game in early Dec. could be a good one, though. Especially if Campbell is back for Fairfield.

Still, assuming they blitz the MAAC in UCONN Big East-style, they should be in position for a #12 or #11 seed with more dangerous upset potential than the past two years. It's a ways off - but that's my hope.

At this rate, Imma be so far in hiding, they gonna need the FBI, SBI, Guilford County Sheriffs, Greensboro Police, Texas Rangers, US Marshalls, Canadian Mounties looking for my Duke Blue Behind 😣😫😩😢☹️
