that’s her only win over a top 12 team in the country that plays in the SEC since she joined LSU. That’s it. One win.
Edit: I came up with this stat from the Lafayette Daily Advertiser. But I am not sure it is true. Because there are a couple of wins against Oklahoma mixed in there.
But the record is really poor. Texas has mostly owned her. And she has had no luck with Dawn. Which there is no shame in. But she has had some talented LSU teams the last couple of years. So, I do think the performance against these kind of teams is noteworthy.
This is a bad stat. People work too hard to discredit Kim.
People use this random SEC figure to discredit Kim, when in reality she has the following wins:
2021-22: SEC wins over #13, #16, #17, #17 ranked teams
2022-23: wins over Iowa/VT/Utah in the last 4 rounds. All were excellent wins en route to a title.
Zero chances to face ranked SEC teams aside from South Carolina
2023-24: win over #9 Virginia Tech, beat #2 seed UCLA in the Sweet 16.
Zero chances to face ranked SEC teams aside from South Carolina
2024-25: wins over NC State (2 seed) twice, SEC wins over #13, #14, #16, and #19.
No opportunities to face top 10 SEC teams aside from South Carolina and Texas
2025-26: wins over Duke (current #11), Texas (current #5), Oklahoma (current #10).
The SEC was not a particularly good conference from 2022-2024, not a lot of chances to beat top 12 teams in conference play when your only top 12 opponent is South Carolina and every year SC is either winning a championship, playing for a championship, or undefeated in the Final Four. She hasn't been able to beat Dawn despite a lot of really competitive games. No one has been able to consistently do it since UCONN from 2014-2019.
Prior to Kim joining LSU they finished 6-8 in 2020-21. In the subsequent years Kim has put together SEC records of:
2021-22: 13-3, 2nd place
2022-23: 15-1, 2nd place
2023-24: 13-3, 2nd place
2024-25: 12-4, 3rd place
2025-26: 8-4, currently 6th place but will likely finish in 4th or 5th place
Also they're 1-3 vs. Texas who is also a Final Four program and it's a small sample size. Texas has won twice on their home court, LSU has won once in its home court. In the one neutral game Texas won a close one where LSU was forced to play the entire second half without its star player who went down with injury early in the 2nd half. To say Texas has owned Kim is misleading.
